Rep. Rashida Tlaib claims she was “really afraid” of Americans in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, 2001.
The Michigan Democrat recounted her feelings in a video segment of an interview filmed for the women’s media site, Makers, noting that she was in law school when the deadly attacks took place which killed nearly 3,000 people. The video was recently uncovered and is now making the rounds on social media.

“I was probably my second year in law school when 9/11 happened,” Tlaib said. “And I was — I was really terrified of what was going to happen to my husband, who was only a green card holder at the time.”
“I immediately called my brothers and told them to be very careful who you hang out with, telling my sisters, you know, just be real careful out there, and being really afraid of my fellow Americans,” the Muslim congresswoman continued.
She went on to say that it was this fear that drove her into politics.
“It really pushed me to be more involved, and I got really curious and really angry. And I think that combination got me, you know, in front of a number of issues in the city of Detroit,” she said.
Earlier this month, Tlaib slammed those attacking her colleague and fellow Muslim congresswoman, Rep. Ilhan Omar, after comments she made during a CAIR conference summarizing the 9/11 terror attack on the United States by saying, “some people did something.”
The Palestinian-American lawmaker defended the comments by her “sister” who was “uplifting people by supporting their civil liberties and civil rights.”
“[People] do that all the time, especially women of color, they take our words out of context because they’re afraid because we speak truth, we speak truth to power,” Tlaib said in an appearance on MSNBC. “This is just pure racist act.”

Tlaib has come under fire herself, from her profane call for the impeachment of President Donald Trump when she took office to recent remarks and actions that have been slammed as anti-Semitic.
The Zionist Organization of America condemned the lawmaker for her “anti-Israel record” and ties to “terrorists, anti-Semites and conspiracy theorists,” calling this week for her to be removed from congressional committees and from the Democrat Party.
“Someone who knowingly and enthusiastically consorts with the most virulent antisemites, blood-soaked terrorists and conspiracy theorists is clearly beyond the pale, or no one is beyond the pale,” ZOA National President Morton A. Klein and Chairman Mark Levenson said in a joint public statement.

“It is perfectly clear that Rashida Tlaib is not in the smallest degree ashamed, and has not the slightest inhibition about, being publicly being associated with these anti-Semites, terrorists and glorifiers of Jew-murderers,” their statement continued.
They went on to say that the “only honorable thing” for the Democrat Party to do is to “expel” Tlaib.
“The Democratic Party must do the only honorable thing,” they said, “which is to expel her from the party and remove her from Congressional committees.”
