AOC bidding ‘FREE’ on every item on ‘The Price Is Right’ was actually ‘fact-checked’ by Snopes

A left-wing fact-checking website ran a fact-check report this week of a satire piece that’d been written about socialist congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Titled “Ocasio-Cortez Appears On ‘The Price Is Right,’ Guesses Everything Is Free,” the piece appeared on the known satirical website The Babylon Bee. It was designed to poke fun at the young congresswoman’s economic illiteracy, know-it-all attitude and love for socialism.

“Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was pumped to attend a taping of The Price Is Right in Hollywood this week. … Things got interesting when the game began and every time it was her turn to estimate the price of an item her answer was ‘free,'” the piece reads.

“Items included a set of Italian leather handbags, an all expenses paid trip to the Bahamas, and a brand new 2019 BMW 330i, at all of which Ocasio-Cortez shouted, ‘FREE!'”

It was obviously satire. The website literally says at the bottom, “The Babylon Bee is Your Trusted Source For Christian News Satire.” It’s essentially a Christian version of The Onion.

The virulently left-wing activists who founded and run Snopes nevertheless felt it necessary to publish a fact-check of this clear-cut satire piece. Why? To protect AOC, most likely.

This stunning fact-check provoked a lot of mockery from social media users:

Snopes’ chief beef was with the featured photo The Babylon Bee had used for its piece.

“In mid-April 2019, an image supposedly showing U.S. Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez guessing that the cost of an item was ‘free’ during an appearance on the daytime television game show ‘The Price is Right’ started circulating on social media,” the fact-check reads.

“This viral image combined a photograph of the congresswoman during her appearance on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert’ in June 2018 with a still from an October episode of ‘The Price is Right.’ The image of her was slotted directly in front of the center contestant.”

The folks at Snopes even created a “collage” to prove this:

*look of complete shock*

This isn’t the first time that Snopes has conducted fact-checks of satire to protect AOC. Nor is it the first time that the left-wing fact-checking website has picked on The Babylon Bee.

Numerous other examples exist:

It seems as if the website rushes to the rescue whenever any satirical website, including The Babylon Bee, runs a parody that mocks congressional Democrats, but especially AOC.

If you search for “Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez” on Snopes’ website, you’ll find pages and pages of fact-checks of mainly satirical pieces, memes, jokes and other material meant to make people laugh.

What you won’t find are many, if any, fact-checks of the socialist congresswoman herself. For instance, you won’t find a fact-check of the lie she told she told last year when she claimed that the United States didn’t add criminal penalties to immigration law until 1999.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE MISSING …

Nor will you find a fact-check of the lie she told earlier this year when she touted her willingness to pay her staffers with what she called a “living wage.” She either forgot or purposefully chose not to mention that she wasn’t the one funding her staffers’ salaries.

What you will find at Snopes, amazingly enough, are numerous pro-AOC lies.

Case in point: After an ethics watchdog group filed a complaint with the Federal Election Committee last month accusing Ocasio-Cortez’s chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, of misusing money collected by two of his pro-AOC political action committees. Snopes issued a piece full of lies to protect her.

Snopes has long been accused of being a left-wing propaganda outfit versus a serious fact-checker, and well, its most recent “fact-check” has only cemented this belief in the minds of many.
