Trump 2020 campaign draws unprecedented $30M in 1Q donations, crushing Dem challengers

President Trump’s re-election campaign organization is reporting that first-quarter fundraising brought in $30.3 million. That total represents more than his top two Democrat challengers combined.

The campaign says that 99% of its donations this year have been for $200 or less, with an average donation of $34.26 … another clear sign of the broad, grassroots foundation of Trump’s appeal.

The Donald J. Trump for President campaign filed a financial report on Thursday with the Federal Election Committee (FEC).

To-date the campaign has $40.8 million on hand … an unprecedented bankroll for a candidate this early in a campaign.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) is also drawing in donations at a mind-boggling pace … $45.8 million–a record for a non-election year quarter. Combined, the President’s re-election war chest has already reached $82 million.

On the lefty side of the ledger, Sen. Bernie Sanders leads the Democrat pack, having collected $18 million in the quarter. Sen. Kamala Harris “placed” with $12 million. ‘Beto’ O’Rourke “showed” with $9.4 million.

For perspective, according to the Associated Press, President Barack Obama had less than $2 million in cash at this point of his 2012 re-election campaign. His campaign went on to raise $720 million through the election cycle.

Trump’s re-election campaign has a $1 billion goal, which might not be ambitious enough for the level of support he enjoys across the nation.

President Trump “is in a vastly stronger position at this point than any previous incumbent president running for re-election, and only continues to build momentum,” said Trump campaign manager Brad Parscale in a statement.

In the laughable “report, but deny” category, the dying, progressive Newsweek publication is reporting all these numbers but then wrapping up with:

“However, the anti-Trump sentiment among Democrats is set to make 2020 a fiercer-than-usual election, and the level of fundraising as polling day approaches will likely reflect the strength of feeling on both sides in a polarized America.

“Trump is deeply unpopular. According to FiveThirtyEight’s polling tracker (ABC News), 55.9 percent of Americans disapprove of the president. Only 39.6 percent approve of him.”

Of course most reputable polling groups show his approval numbers above the 50% watermark.

Trump’s fundraising with the RNC comes in under two organizations: “Trump Victory,” which collects high-dollar gifts, and the “Make America Great Again Committee” which focuses on smaller donations raised online. Combined, since 2017 the two entities have brought in $165.5 million in contributions.

The campaign is planning to launch a “bundling” program that it did not have in 2016. Bundlers are mid-tier supporters who solicit contributions from their associates.

“Midway through the first term of his presidency, President Donald Trump continues to deliver on his campaign promises to the American people and they continue to demonstrate their support for him in contributions to his reelection campaign,” said Michael Glassner, the campaign’s chief operating officer in a news release.

He pointed out that the smaller donations received are a “true testament to President Trump’s fulfillment of his promises made to the forgotten men and women of America.”

RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said that Trump’s campaign has already had eight seven-figure fundraising days this year. The campaign has received money from more than 1 million new online donors since Trump’s inauguration … including 100,000 this year.
