“[Y]ou were at my wedding Denise.”
Those few words made up the response from “The View” co-host Meghan McCain to Denise McAllister, who delivered some harsh criticism of the ABC daytime show.
It didn’t help that McAllister is a contributor for The Federalist, a right-of-center site founded by McCain’s husband, Ben Domenech.
McAllister tweeted Monday: “Can someone explain to me the purpose of The View? It seems to me to be a roundtable of delusional mental midgets ricocheting ignorance and lack of emotional regulation.”
you were at my wedding Denise….

The article McAllister linked to in her tweet featuring a photo of McCain from the show, which very likely prompted McCain’s response.
McAllister respond to McCain’s clap back, explaining her thought process with the tweet.
“I think the photo on the story made it look like this was personally directed at you, Meghan,” she said. “My comment was directed at The View and the mental midgets who surround you. I don’t even know how you do it daily and my hat is off to you for standing strong in the midst of crazy.”

But the internet doesn’t care much about details, as social media users pounced on what proved to be an instant classic when it comes to clap backs.
The ensuing meme-fest was something to behold:
Truly, truly I say to you, one of you will betray me…

And despite McAllister’s clarification, McCain knows how to milk controversy for all it’s worth.
The daughter of the late Sen. John McCain tweeted this response: “You were at my wedding, Denise…” can be everyone’s clap back to everyone, everywhere, forever. My gift to the internet. Thank you for the support.”

Of course, there’s also the possibility that McCain isn’t buying the explanation from McAllister. The response below to Kat Timpf, a regular on Fox News’ “Greg Gutfeld Show,” seems to suggest as much.
Well you WERE ALSO at my wedding Kat – but I love you and you don’t talk shit about me so…. I don’t know if it works as well 😜
