Delaware may soon become the 13th state to join the National Popular Vote interstate compact, a far-left campaign to undo the U.S. Constitution by abolishing the 232-year-old Electoral College.
On March 7 the Delaware Senate passed the National Popular Vote bill 14-7. Seven days later the Delaware passed the same bill 24-17. Gov. John Carney has reportedly vowed to sign it.
If signed into law, the bill will enroll Delaware in a pact designed to nullify the Electoral College and instead award future presidential elections to the winner of the popular vote.
“Under the compact, the national popular vote winner would be the candidate who received the most popular votes from all 50 states (and DC) on Election Day,” the campaign’s website notes.
“When the Electoral College meets in mid-December, the national popular vote winner would receive all of the electoral votes of the enacting states, and therefore become the president-elect.”

Had this pact been active in 2016, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton would be president.
At the time of the bill’s passage in the Delaware House last Thursday, only 11 states and the District of Columbia had signed onto the pledge, thus giving it an electoral count of 172 votes.
Then on Friday, a day after the bill’s passage in Delaware, Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed a similar bill in his state, thus adding an additional 9 electoral votes to the total count.
Below are the list of states and jurisdictions currently enrolled in the pact:
- California: 55 electoral votes
- Colorado: 9 electoral votes
- Connecticut: 7 electoral votes
- Hawaii: 4 electoral votes
- Illinois: 20 electoral votes
- Maryland: 10 electoral votes
- Massachusetts: 11 electoral votes
- New Jersey: 14 electoral votes
- New York: 29 electoral votes
- Rhode Island: 4 electoral votes
- Vermont: 3 electoral votes
- Washington, D.C.: 3 electoral votes
- Washington: 12 electoral votes
Once Carney signs the bill, the pact will be up to 184 electoral votes, 86 short of what’s needed for the far-left pact to actually become active for the next presidential election in 2020.
“The National Popular Vote interstate compact would not take effect until enacted by states possessing a majority of the electoral votes — that is, enough to elect a President (270 of 538),” the pact’s website notes.
Republicans in Delaware are not pleased by what’s happening.
“While not perfect the Electoral College has been an effective mechanism to protect the interests of small states in selecting our nation’s leader,” state Rep. Lyndon Yearick said to Wilmington station WHYY-TV. “This bill would circumvent a system with a 230-year track record with a system that’s impact is impossible to gauge.”
The Electoral College was designed by the Founding Fathers to, one, prevent the United States from descending into mob rule, and two, ensure every state gets an equal say in the election process. Remember, America is a constitutional republic, not a democracy.
Actually the electoral college was created so that smaller states wouldn’t be lost in the shuffle of a popular vote. It’s a compromise. It’s why there are two senators per state yet the House is based on state population. It’s one of the country’s most brilliant compromises.

A majority of mini-Republics i.e. individual states will not sign on to this as it puts the power of the vote literally in the State of California’s hands. The electoral college represents fairness as each state gets a proportional say in the election based on population.

We need the Electoral College so everyone’s vote is counted & means something. If no E. College only the large population states will elect our Presidents. Like California, New York, & other Large States. Only legal citizens of the USA are allowed to vote in our Elections.

If the Electoral College were abolished, the only states that’d matter in a presidential election would be those with large populations such as California and New York.
This point has been ignored by Democrat legislators on the state and national level, including presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren, who on Monday pushed for the elimination of the Electoral College on the basis that “every vote matters.”
“We need to make sure that every vote counts. And you know, I want to push that right here in Mississippi. Because I think this is an important point,” she said during a CNN-hosted town hall event in Mississippi. “My view is that every vote matters. And the way we can make that happen is that we can have national voting and that means get rid of the Electoral College.”

To many, the left’s relentless attempts to rewrite the U.S. Constitution by abolishing the Electoral College, eliminating the Second Amendment, packing the Supreme Court, etc., makes it seem that they’re willing to do anything to agenda, even if that means destroying the very foundation of what makes America America.
