Jim Acosta thought he had Sanders cornered with ‘Dems hate Jews’ question, but it blew up in his face

CNN chief White House correspondent and professional grandstander Jim Acosta expressed shock Monday over a report that President Donald Trump believes the Democrats hate Jews.

“Isn’t that kind of rhetoric just sort of beneath everybody?” he asked in genuine outrage to White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. “Do you think that the president has thought, at all, going into the 2020 campaign that the rhetoric just needs to be lowered?”

“Whether it’s talking about Democrats, the media, immigrants, or should we just plan on hearing the president use the same kind of language that we heard in 2016 and all through the first couple years of this administration?”

He posed these questions after other members of the White House press corps asked Sanders whether it’s true the president believes Democrats hate Jews. During a speech at Mar-a-Lago to RNC donors last Friday, a day after Democrats passed a watered-down anti-hate resolution that failed to name anti-Semitic congresswoman Ilhan Omar, the president reportedly said, “The Democrats hate Jewish people.”

“Look, I think the real shame in all this is that Democrats are perfectly capable of agreeing on the fact that they’re comfortable ripping babies from straight from their mother’s womb or killing a baby after birth, but they have a hard time condemning the type of comments from Congresswoman Omar,” she said. “I think that is a great shame. The president has been clear on what his position is, certainly what his support is for the people and the community of Israel.”

“Democrats don’t hate Jewish people,” Acosta angrily fired back. “That’s just silly. It’s not true.”

Is it, though? Congressional Democrats have openly hobnobbed with notorious anti-Semites, refused to condemn the anti-Semitism of their own peers and downplayed the experiences of Holocaust survivors. Anti-Semitism runs so deep in the Democrat-led House that actual Holocaust survivors have lamented that this is “the most anti-Semitic Congress” in American history.

Note that the video above was never covered by CNN, which has a history of covering up, downplaying or outright ignoring stories that make the Democrat Party look bad.

“I think they should call out their members by name,” Sanders said in response to Acosta’s complaint, before trying to move on to another reporter.

But as usual, Acosta refused to give up the microphone. He continued his fact-free rant by bringing up the “fine people on both sides” remarks that Trump made following the Charlottesville incident in 2017 and suggesting there’s an equivalence with this and the Democrats’ anti-Semitism.

“But the president — his rhetoric after Charlottesville, saying there were very fine people on both sides in Charlottesville, essentially suggesting there were very fine people in the Nazis,” Acosta claimed.

False. After a white supremacist killed a protester at the event two years ago, the president rightly noted that not everybody who’d attended the Unite the Right rally had also been a white supremacist. Some had attended the event to protest the removal of Confederate statues.

HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE MISSING …

“But you also had people that were very fine people on both sides,” he said. “I saw the same pictures as you did. You had people in that group that were there to protest the taking down of — to them — a very, very important statute and the renaming of a park from Robert E. Lee.”

He reiterated though that when speaking of “fine people,” he didn’t mean the white supremacists.

“I’ve condemned neo-Nazis. I’ve condemned many different groups, but not all of those people were neo-Nazis, believe me. Not all of those people were white supremacists by any stretch. Those people were also there because they wanted to protest the taking down of a statue of Robert E. Lee.”

All that was true, but of course, CNN and its peers in the left-wing media chose to ignore the facts.

“That’s not at all what the president was stating,” Sanders replied Monday. “The president has been incredibly clear in consistently and repeatedly condemning hatred, bigotry and racism in all of its forms, whether it’s in America or anywhere else. To say otherwise is simply untrue.”

And to say something untrue is to, well, basically work for CNN.
