Michael Cohen was reportedly pitching a book ‘glowing with praise’ for Trump just weeks before FBI raid

WASHINGTON, DC - FEBRUARY 27: Michael Cohen, former attorney and fixer for President Donald Trump testifies before the House Oversight Committee on Capitol Hill February 27, 2019 in Washington, DC. Last year Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison and ordered to pay a $50,000 fine for tax evasion, making false statements to a financial institution, unlawful excessive campaign contributions and lying to Congress as part of special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential elections. The same Michael Cohen who spent much of Wednesday publicly trash-talking President Donald Trump had not that long ago pitched a virulently pro-Trump book to various publishers.

“Everything he wanted to say about Trump was positive,” one unnamed publishing executive revealed to the Daily Mail this week. “Even in our meeting he was glowing with praise for the president.”

According to unidentified publishers, Cohen pitched his book, tentatively titled, “Trump Revolution: From The Tower to The White House, Understanding Donald J. Trump,” only weeks before federal authorities raided his office last year and he subsequently began to turn on the president.

“At the time he had nothing but good things to say about his boss who had entered the White House a little more than a year earlier,” the Daily Mail reported, citing a copy of the pitch it’s had the chance to review. “He sent his book to several potential publishers last year, and one, Hachette, reportedly was willing to pay him three-quarters of a million dollars for his wise words.”

He reportedly rejected the deal with the hopes he’d get a more lucrative offer. Oops.

The pitch reportedly began with “a list of unflattering barbs” that are often launched about the president, according to the Mail, including “crazy,” “dumb,” “paranoid,” “in over his head,” liar” and “hates the media.”

“All of these things have been said about my longtime boss, Donald J. Trump,” Cohen reportedly wrote. “None of it is true. Except maybe that last one – about the media. Trump does believe that reporters are out to get him, and for a very good reason. Many of them are.”

And many of those lying, disingenuous, anti-Trump media entities won’t touch this particular story about Cohen’s previous praise of the president with a 100-foot pole.

“That doesn’t make him paranoid. That makes him a realist,” he reportedly added.

He also described the president as an “enigma.”

“That so many people are confused by Trump is not surprising to me,” he reportedly wrote. “His world is a highly complex and nuanced place; it also has clear and very specific rules of order. Most people don’t understand that – or him – at all. That’s not really their fault.”

“Because here’s the thing about Trump: Despite his hyper-public profile Donald Trump is — and has always been — an enigma to most people.”

Now contrast this praise with the scathing testimony — much of it allegedly lies — about the president that he delivered publicly to the House Oversight Committee on Wednesday.

“He is a racist. He is a con man. And he is a cheat,” he said.

Granted, he claimed his previous habit of defending Trump nonstop had simply been part of his job as the president’s attorney:

“I am ashamed of my weakness and misplaced loyalty — of the things I did for Mr. Trump in an effort to protect and promote him. I am ashamed that I chose to take part in concealing Mr. Trump’s illicit acts rather than listening to my own conscience. I am ashamed because I know what Mr. Trump is. … I wound up touting the Trump narrative for over a decade. That was my job. Always stay on message. Always defend. It monopolized my life.”

Trump claims that Cohen’s true intentions are to get his reduce sentenced.

Cohen must report to prison in May to serve a 3-year sentence for a litany of crimes that he committed, including campaign finance violations, tax evasion and lying to Congress. Trump suspects that he hopes his cooperation with Democrats will motivate prosecutors to reduce his sentence.

“Michael Cohen was one of many lawyers who represented me (unfortunately). He had other clients also. He was just disbarred by the State Supreme Court for lying & fraud. He did bad things unrelated to Trump. He is lying in order to reduce his prison time. Using Crooked’s lawyer!” the president tweeted early Wednesday, hours before Cohen’s testimony.

Some suspect that Cohen’s rapid about-face — i.e., him praising Trump one day and trash-talking him the next — is the result of threats made to him by prosecutors such as Robert Mueller:
