CNN’s Smerconish slams ‘waste of police resources’ in Bob Kraft arrest, cites ‘BAN BOB’ headline overkill

CNN’s Michael Smerconish slammed the arrest of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft as a “waste of police resources” and said the 77-year-old didn’t deserve to be treated this way.

The CNN host announced he would “link two of the hottest stories in the country, Robert Kraft and Jussie Smollett” in the Saturday broadcast of “Smerconish,” referring to the report of the billionaire businessman being charged in Florida in a human trafficking investigation.

Arguing in defense of Kraft, Smerconish called for prostitution to be legalized while he blasted the extent of Kraft’s arrest, calling it the “largest waste of resources since Jussie Smollett,” referring to the “Empire” actor who led Chicago police on a hunt for weeks in an alleged hate-crime attack that he has now been charged with staging himself.

“News reports have all the elements, sex, money, stakeout, allegedly even videotape,” the CNN host said Saturday.

“My take, legalize it. In a world where men and women swipe right for companionship and send nude selfies before showing off the real thing, surely an exchange of money for sex between consenting adults is not an absurd suggestion,” he contended. “Like pot, prostitution should be legal, cleaned up, regulated. Healthy.”

“Let me be clear, of course, no woman should be forced into this line of work and anyone who would attempt to make them indentured servants should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he clarified.  “But not a 77-year-old guy who lost his wife of 48 years back in 2011. As it is, I tweeted, it represents the largest waste of resources since Jussie Smollett.”

In a tweet on Saturday morning, Smerconish asked “Does 77 year old Bob Kraft deserve this for misdemeanor arrest?” along with a photo of the Daily News cover declaring, “KRAFT AMERICAN SLEAZE.”

He responded later in the show to a tweet by someone saying, “I can’t believe @smerconish is defending Bob Kraft as an unwitting perp in a sex trafficking ring. Kraft chose those girls because he knows they’re voiceless and powerless.”

“How do you know they’re voiceless and powerless?” Smerconish fired back. “How do you know they don’t choose that life? Look, I said very clearly at the outset of the program that if this is a case of indentured servitude, then those who put those women in that path, their employers, need to be held accountable to the highest extent of the law.”

“Does he deserve this? Seriously, does he deserve this?” he asked, holding up the Daily News cover.

“Ban Bob? For a misdemeanor? 77-year-old guy who was looking for some short-term companionship?” he asked, citing a “BAN BOB” headline.

“We should ban him? That’s ridiculous,” he added.  “And what a waste of law enforcement resources. No greater waste of law enforcement resources except Jussie Smollett’s hoax. Alleged hoax.”
