While the left spewed hate-filled rants following the alleged attack on Jussie Smollett, their silence is now deafening as their typical rush to judgement comes back to bite them.
Sen. Cory Booker’s declaration that he was withholding judgement would be commendable if he hadn’t already called it out as “an attempted modern-day lynching.” The Democratic presidential candidate told reporters Sunday that he was now waiting until the facts came in on the alleged hate crime against the “Empire” actor, a blatant about-face after joining others like Sen. Kamala Harris and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on the left’s bandwagon of condemnation for the alleged racist and homophobic attack Smollett claimed occurred in Chicago last month.
“Well, the information is still coming out, and I’m going to withhold until all the information comes out,” the New Jersey Democrat said, speaking to reporters after meeting with voters in Rochester, N.H. , according to Fox News. “What we’re seeing is attacks on people because they’re different and we all need to join together and condemn those attacks and the hatred and the bigotry that sources them.”
“We know in America that bigoted and biased attacks are on the rise in a serious way, and we actually even know in this country that since 9/11, the majority of the terrorist attacks on our soil have been right-wing terrorist attacks — the majority of them white supremacist attacks,” Booker claimed.
The Democrat’s sudden cautionary thinking on the Smollett case is a departure from his earlier reaction within hours of Smollett’s claim, condemning the alleged crime while touting an anti-lynching bill introduced in Congress.
The vicious attack on actor Jussie Smollett was an attempted modern-day lynching. I’m glad he’s safe.
To those in Congress who don’t feel the urgency to pass our Anti-Lynching bill designating lynching as a federal hate crime– I urge you to pay attention. https://t.co/EwXFxl5f2m

Booker, and many of his Democratic colleagues seemed to have no intentions of “withholding” any judgement after the initial reports, and now are either deleting supportive tweets or remaining noticeably silent.
Weird, I don’t remember @CoryBooker withholding comment until all the information was out when the story first broke…I wonder what possibly could have changed? ??#SmollettHoax https://t.co/Rh7Gn6kNqy

After questioning two Nigerian brothers in the reported attack, Chicago police released them and now suspect that Smollett paid them to stage the crime. Now, it seems, many on the left have some backtracking to do after being quick to judge the “facts” in the case. Left-wing activists, celebrities, Democratic political candidates and the media piled on the hate-crime narrative, defending the black and openly gay actor who claimed that the two white men attacked him, shouting “this is MAGA country,” and placed a rope around his neck.
Ocasio-Cortez slammed the “racist and homophobic attack” before any of the solid facts had been investigated.
There is no such thing as “racially charged.”
This attack was not “possibly” homophobic. It was a racist and homophobic attack.
If you don’t like what is happening to our country, then work to change it. It is no one’s job to water down or sugar-coat the rise of hate crimes. https://t.co/QAi0IYtSeR

California Democrat and 2020 presidential candidate, Sen. Kamala Harris, echoed Booker’s words, calling it an “attempted modern day lynching.”
.@JussieSmollett is one of the kindest, most gentle human beings I know. I’m praying for his quick recovery.
This was an attempted modern day lynching. No one should have to fear for their life because of their sexuality or color of their skin. We must confront this hate.

Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters naturally blamed the attack on President Trump, saying “It’s coming from the president of the United States. He’s dog whistling every day.”
“Why all of a sudden do we have people unable to study while black, unable to mow a lawn while black, unable to have picnic while black, and being attacked?” she said.
Outspoken attorney Michael Avenatti appeared to agree with the Democrat’s finger-pointing.
This is outrageous criminal conduct and it should be denounced by the WH immediately. This has no place in America. And it all starts at the top…

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in a now-deleted tweet, said, “The racist, homophobic attack on [Smollett] is an affront to our humanity. No one should be attacked for who they are or whom they love.”
Hey Nancy Pelosi, how about tweeting that Smollett’s lie is an “affront” to the truth. #JussieSmollet pic.twitter.com/VbNfzgYh4u

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders tweeted that the attack was an example of the “surging hostility toward minorities around the country.”
The racist and homophobic attack on Jussie Smollett is a horrific instance of the surging hostility toward minorities around the country. We must come together to eradicate all forms of bigotry and violence. https://t.co/2accVEJrCG

Rep. Eric Swalwell also called out the hate speech.
What happened to Jussie Smollett is vile and tragic; thankfully, he will recover. But hate crimes like this are happening more frequently, egged on by careless hate-filled rhetoric. We start reducing these crimes by rejecting the speech – neither can ever be accepted as normal.
— Eric Swalwell (@ericswalwell) January 29, 2019
Hollywood came to the defense of their fellow actor with knee-jerk reactions as well.
This is beyond upsetting. What happened to @JussieSmollett is a truly horrible racist, homophobic hate crime. I hope we can find an end to the hate and fear that plagues this country. Praying for your recovery, Jussie. ?? https://t.co/9llTsCYKYQ

Jussie Smollett was violently attacked by two white men who poured bleach on him and put a noose around his neck. He was targeted for being black and for being gay. THIS is why we have to have zero tolerance against homophobia and racism. Jussie’s life matters.

I am questioned all the time about what defines toxic masculinity. Look no further than what just happened to @JussieSmollett . Get well brother???

No matter what’s happening around us, @JussieSmollett is ALWAYS quick w/ a massive smile & hug. Thats the kind of man he is. The homophobic, racist hate crime against him & hate crimes against countless others cannot stand. Rebuke hatred any & every time it rears its ugly head.

A) Today I am outraged for my friend @JussieSmollett. He was viciously attacked in my hometown of Chicago. They threw bleach on him and put a noose around his neck. Racism and homophobia are very much alive, people.
— Kathy Griffin (@kathygriffin) January 29, 2019
The sports world echoed the condemnation.
There is no room in our society for hate crimes! People have a right to be who they are and feel safe. Get well soon @JussieSmollett! Respect, love, and support from the Johnson family.
— Earvin Magic Johnson (@MagicJohnson) January 29, 2019
I’ve met @JussieSmollett a few times at social events and he emanates warmth and joy. I’m just disgusted and appalled that he has suffered the unimaginable. Praying for him and his loved ones.

Even with all the tweets and comments that have obviously not aged well, it’s highly unlikely any on the left will acknowledge the error of their ways. Instead, like Booker, many will play the game of “withholding” judgement even after they stoke the fires of division with their rhetoric.
If @CoryBooker were a smart man he would have waited to learn more before weighing in in the first place. He’s a coward and a fraud. https://t.co/wF2wOP73dI
