In response to the release of damning evidence Saturday evening showing that the hate crime attack that actor Jussie Smollett allegedly suffered at the hands of two Trump supporters last month likely never occurred, the brilliant minds at CNN aimed their righteous indignation at Trump supporters.
“The giddiness among Trumpsters over the Smollett news is gross. This story is awful. He allegedly abused police resources, exploited raw divisions in this country, and made it harder for every victim of a hate crime to report. This is sad no matter your politics,” CNN host S.E. Cupp tweeted.
CNN chief media correspondent Brian Stelter, the author of the network’s “Reliable Sources” newsletter, retweeted her in agreement shortly thereafter. Look:

Never mind that thanks to what now appear to be Smollett’s lies — not to mention the media’s rush to report these lies without performing even the slightest due diligence — half the country thinks Trump supporters are a bunch of racist, homophobic monsters.
Smollett claimed in late January that two men had assaulted him, poured bleach on him and placed a noose around his neck, all while allegedly yelling racial and homophobic slurs and shouting, “This is MAGA country!” FYI, Chicago hasn’t had a Republican mayor since 1931.
According to TMZ, Smollett also claimed that the suspect was white. The dubious description of the alleged attack provided to local authorities by him led the left to assume the perpetrators were racist white supporters of President Donald Trump and that Trump was therefore to blame.
“This is what happens,” actress Ellen Page said on “The Late Show” earlier this month, referencing the attack. “If you are in a position of power and you hate people, and you want to cause suffering to them — you go through the trouble, you spend your career trying to cause suffering — what do you think is gonna happen? … This needs to f–king stop.”
Yet this false narrative began to crumble like a day-old muffin last week when authorities in Chicago raided the homes of and arrested two Nigeran brothers, actors Abimbola “Abel” and Olabinjo “Ola” Osundairo, on suspicion of orchestrating a fake hate crime.
While the two were released Friday, local authorities are now reportedly requesting a follow-up interview. Moreover, law enforcement sources have confirmed with the media that the Chicago Police Department are now fairly certain Smollett paid the men to orchestrate a fake assault on him.

Now ask yourself a question: How would you feel if someone tried to smear you by accusing you of committing a hate crime against him? How would you then feel if he was finally outed as a liar who had concocted the hate crime out of thin air? Perhaps you’d feel relieved, even giddy?
You’d very likely also feel anger at the perp for having smeared you. Except according to CNN, the perp’s disgusting attempt to smear you doesn’t deserve anger. No. YOU deserve anger and condemnation because YOU have the audacity to feel relieved that the man who smeared you has been exposed.

Perhaps Cupp and Stelter should spend some time reading the enraged, top-voted replies to their absurd, sanctimonious tweets today, because they may yet learn something.

What is gross is accepting that anyone who voted for Trump is a de facto racist and so using that worldview to believe every obviously outrageous tall tale because it confirms your bias.

The latter user nailed it. Every time a Trump supporter commits an alleged offense of some type, the entire left — including the media — wield the alleged (and more often than not later debunked) as a cudgel against “Trump’s America” and his purportedly mean, evil supporters.
“To many, the Smollett incident — and the political nature of the assault — is yet another reminder for many black gay Americans that this president’s vision of a “great America” does not appear to include them,” The Washington Post excitedly wrote after Smollett claimed to be attacked last month.
Except as usual, the vision of a racist America touted almost daily by the disingenuous, politically driven media has turned out to be a total lie. And it’s no surprise given how many red flags Smollett’s tale contained, as noted by former TV news host Megyn Kelly:
