America’s universities have mostly slid into a disgraceful sinkhole of political correctness, identity politics, and an assault on the value of free speech. College administrators and faculty are allowing suppression of open inquiry and dissent to replace their responsibility to uphold academic standards and prepare students for life.

Many universities have become hostile territory to all forms of conservative thinking and they have offered cozy nests for far-leftists and neo-Marxists to spread their poison.
Make no mistake, the collective plan of these leftists is to indoctrinate malleable-minded students to a progressive left agenda, while refusing to allow opposition voices to challenge leftist positions. These classic socialist infiltration methods are being promoted or tolerated by college administrators.
Further, the universities are being spurred on by the 2016 Democratic Party platform, and by Dem politicians, famously starting with its last candidate for president, Hillary Clinton, who announced this goal during her campaign: “to amend the Bill of Rights to make it less protective…to change the First Amendment in order to regulate the quantity, content and timing of political speech.” Astonishing goal, but being echoed by other Democrats as well.
What else in our universities should we be distressed over?
We can add the classroom hostility to capitalism, the decline of intellectual diversity and academic freedom, and politically correct speech codes. From too many college professors, we hear that our military is full of warmongers, that corporations harm America when they seek profits, that white racists lurk around every corner, and that students are right to demand safe spaces and to dig up allegations of systematic racial injustice on their own campuses.
Far too many teachers deplore competition, teaching coursework where nobody gets an “F” and everybody gets a reward no matter if they have failed. Professors by the score became more concerned about equality of outcomes, not equality of opportunity. It’s OK, they say, for students to promote destructive campus mayhem and sit-ins over perceived racial and gender diversity. This includes demands to ease admissions standards in the name of inclusiveness and diversity.

The current problem began with the violent radicalism of the 1960s; by the 1990s, left-wing extremism dominated official college discourse. Moral conservatism was being banned from campus, as the higher purpose of universities slowly slipped into the background. Obnoxious students pushed, and administrators caved, often issuing groveling apologies for their behavior and agreeing to “sensitivity training”.
The inmates took over the asylum.
The tenured professor radicals corrupted higher education, as they demanded diversity in all things except thought. College life on many campuses became surreal as reality took second place to leftist ideology. The academic thought-police enforced censure, conformity and prohibition. Students’ hopes of acquiring an education they can use, or preparing for a realistic adulthood, often became secondary to a demand to be protected from offensive or controversial ideas and “micro-aggressions”.
How did all this happen?
Because spineless and fearful college administrators and professors empowered radical activists who forced universities to look at life and American history through the rose-colored optics of identity, gender and ethnicity. Most capitulating college administrators still don’t understand they brought all this politically correct crap on themselves, and are reluctant to admit that for a long time now, about half of university students can’t do what used to be required college-level work.
The truth is that too many colleges offer useless courses in politically-correct ideology, they award worthless degrees that prepare their graduates for nothing in the real world, creating spoiled, narcissistic and infantile brats who face terrible shocks after graduation, all the while encouraging students to load themselves up with gigantic debt. This is a recipe that needs to be jettisoned because most academics and university educators can no longer be trusted to teach our children properly.
It does America no good to rely on education when the education being given is the wrong kind.
