‘Economic illiteracy’: AOC’s mind-boggling justification for booting 25,000 jobs brings on a Twitter beatdown

It defies logic how so many New Yorkers — see Millennials — support newly-elected Democratic Rep. Alexander Ocasio-Cortez and the left-wing policies she represents.

Even more so when they witness the self-avowed democratic socialist celebrate her district losing 25,000 jobs after Amazon announced in response to protests from the far left that it will not open a new headquarters in New York.

“I think it’s incredible!” the happy socialist told a reporter on Capitol Hill. “I mean, it shows that everyday Americans still have the power to organize and fight for their communities — and they can have more say in this country than the richest man in the world.”

The richest man being Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, a liberal in his own right.

When asked about criticism that her district lost so many potential jobs, the Bronx nitwit pointed to the tax subsidies that would have lured Amazon to the area to say that money could now be spent providing government jobs — not realizing that there’s a HUGE hole in that theory.

“Well, one of those things is a). we were subsidizing those jobs,” she replied. “The city was paying for those jobs, so frankly, if we were willing to give Amazon three — if we were willing to give away $3 billion for this deal, we could invest those $3 billion in our district ourselves if we wanted to. We could hire out more teachers, we can fix our subways, we can put a lot of people to work for that money if we wanted to.”

Apparently, Ocasio-Cortez doesn’t grasp the “subsidies” were essentially a break on taxes the company wouldn’t have paid. In other words, it’s not magic money rotting away in NY state coffers simply because Amazon was eyeing a potential deal, as Acosio-Cortez seemingly implies.

The Daily Wire’s Emily Zanotti explained it in simple terms for Acosio-Cortez — she would also note her typo of $3M instead of $3B.

“That $3M isn’t fungible. It’s taxes Amazon simply wouldn’t have paid. That money doesn’t yet exist, and can’t be reallocated to other projects. This doesn’t seem like a concept that’s super hard. You’d think an Econ major would get it,” Zanotti tweeted.

Acosio-Cortez followed up on her poor understanding of economics by expressing yet another nonsensical comment about the lost jobs not necessarily being for New Yorkers.

(Lacking no self assurance, the dimwit is confident her media fan club will not call her out for much of anything.)

“Additionally, those jobs, there was no guarantee that those jobs were for the New Yorkers that were here,” the 29-year-old lawmaker said. “We were looking at a deal that was not primarily putting the community first and I think that we can absolutely come together to create an economic plan that actually invests in New Yorkers, in higher wages, and in a dignified life.”

If not for New Yorkers, then for who? It was to be built in her district!

While Twitter has largely devolved into a toxic wasteland, learning opportunities still abound, as seen from social media users willing to educate Ocasio-Cortez on what she clearly does not know.

In the end, the ex-bartender Ocasio-Cortez “has literally no clue what she’s doing and people love her,” one social media user noted.

The people being uniformed liberals… and the media. In the end, that may be the most troubling aspect of the post-Obama phenomenon known as AOC.
