Sen. Ed Markey, the co-author of congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s “Green New Deal,” is raving mad that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is taking the deal seriously.
After the Senate leader announced Tuesday that he plans to hold a vote on the so-called “Green New Deal,” Markey took to Twitter to complain about alleged sabotage.
Look:
Don’t let Mitch McConnell fool you: this is nothing but an attempt to sabotage the movement we are building. He wants to silence your voice so Republicans don’t have to explain why they are climate change deniers. McConnell wants this to be the end, this is just the beginning. https://t.co/GUxJ5HG2jb

This isn’t a new Republican trick. By rushing a vote on the #GreenNewDeal resolution, Republicans want to avoid a true national debate & kill our efforts to organize. We’re having the first national conversation on climate change in a decade. We can’t let Republicans sabotage it.

The irony was not lost on social media users, who’ve been pummeling him with nonstop mockery for kvetching about his colleagues voting on something he wrote.
Look:
He’s voting against *his own bill* because “sabotage” https://t.co/I7qxxcfLJI

ed markey, who co-sponsored the green new deal with alexandria ocasio-cortez, is calling mitch mcconnell’s announcement for a floor vote of their non-binding resolution “sabotage.”

Climate Change is an existential threat to humanity and our way of life. We have put forward our plan to save global humanity & Mitch McConnell is sabotaging it by putting it to a vote publish tweet https://t.co/9gMeE3Bu4B

Note how he complained about McConnell “rushing a vote.”
But why would a rush be bad? According to him and AOC, only 12 or so years remain before the entire Earth becomes an inhabitable wasteland because of man-made climate change.
“I think that the part of it that is generational is that millennials and people, in Gen Z, and all these folks that come after us are looking up and we’re like, the world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change,” AOC said at an MLK Day event last month.
“And your biggest issue is, your biggest issue is how are we going to pay for it? And like this is the war, this is our World War II,” she added, pushing back against criticism regarding her proposal’s cost.
Listen:
Keep in mind that she — and Markey, presumably — really believe this crap. Yet the senator is upset because McConnell’s “rushing a vote” on their plan to save the world? That doesn’t sound right. Nor the radical and economically unfeasible “Green New Deal,” for that matter.
Released last Thursday, the plan calls for outlawing air travel, combustion-engine vehicles, nuclear energy, fossil fuel energy, meat and farting cows — as well as guarantying everybody a job (assuming they want one), in addition to free education, free healthcare, free housing, etc.
Rolling out the plan would require a total and unequivocal government takeover — or what AOC would rather call “government intervention.” It’d likewise cost an estimated 8,000 times more than it’d take for President Donald Trump to secure the southern U.S. border.
The deal is so outrageous that even House Speaker Nancy Pelosi dismissed it as a “Green New Dream” and snubbed AOC by not assigning her to serve on the Select Committee on the Climate Crisis.
Yet Markey and Ocasio-Cortez released the plan anyway, so what did they expect? While that remains unclear, what’s obvious is Markey (and perhaps AOC as well) is scared to death of the deal actually being held up to the light for scrutiny, as noted by social media:
Wow, you are really scared for people to find out what is in the legislation you sponsored. Never expected it to make it to the floor, did you? Just thought you would cudgel the Repubs with it before it died in committee. @senatemajldr is GOAT.

Why so worried Eddy ? scared you’ll have to oppose it ? ??? Or worried people will see you vote for it? ???? The only people that can be fooled is your constituents and this will expose that

I fail to see your reluctance in voting for a measure you co-sponsored, that you openly advocated & praised, and that is the blueprint for action against climate change.
Unless, of course, it’s complete idiocy and you’re scared of going on record by voting for it.

You know it is easy just to say something in a bill that you know does not have a chance of coming to reality for the sake of saying “look at us” but now scared you have to stand behind it and people will actually “look at you” cross eyed.

His fear is admittedly understandable given that even America’s far-left unions want nothing to do with his and AOC’s radical and patently insane plan.
“Labor unions are warning that the “Green New Deal” proposed by Democratic New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is vague and potentially dangerous, signaling that the progressive proposal may be in for even more turbulence following a rocky rollout last week,” Fox News reported.
That’s a shame.
