House Speaker Nancy Pelosi set off a firestorm of backlash from the left after she dismissed the very idea of a “Green New Deal.”
In an interview with Politico published on Thursday, the California Democrat gave no more priority to the House progressives’ environmental plan than to other “suggestions,” although she did agree to launch a select committee on climate change.
Details on the “Green New Deal,”one of the left’s top priorities, were released by self-proclaimed Democratic socialist, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on Thursday. The plan seeks to eliminate all U.S. carbon emissions as well as other seemingly implausible goals.

But it doesn’t appear that Pelosi is on board.
“It will be one of several or maybe many suggestions that we receive,” Pelosi told Politico.
“The green dream or whatever they call it, nobody knows what it is, but they’re for it right?” she added.
The Democratic leader’s stand set off a wave of backlash among progressives who let her have it on social media.
