Joni Ernst eviscerates Dem’s ‘radicalized political agenda’ after bill to protect abortion survivors is blocked

Thanks to continued obstruction by the Democrat Party’s increasingly radical legislators, even a simple bill designed to prohibit infanticide has failed to pass the GOP-led Senate. Though to be fair, only one Democrat voted against Sen. Ben Sasse’s Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act.

Washington Sen. Patty Murray, a far-left Democrat who’s also against school discipline, objected to unanimous consent on the measure on the false basis that infanticide is already illegal.

“We have laws against infanticide in this country. This is a gross misinterpretation of the actual language of the bill that is being asked to be considered and therefore, I object,” she said Monday on the Senate floor as the unanimous consent “vote” was held.

Listen:

Sen. Joni Ernst, a Republican, was stunned.

“There is nothing great, there is nothing moral, or even humane about the discussion that we have before us today. Over the past week, we have witnessed the absolutely ugly truth about the far-reaching grasp of the abortion industry and its increasingly radicalized political agenda,” she said in rebuttal.

“Politicians have not only defended aborting a child while a woman is in labor, but have gone so far as to support the termination of a child after his or her birth. A child. A baby. Rationality, decency, and basic human compassion have fallen by the wayside.”

Listen:

Sasse had requested a unanimous consent “vote” on his bill to, one, expedite the bill’s passage through the Senate, and two, force Democrats to prove they’re against the murder of newborn babies. Every Democrat senator — even Minority Leader Chuck Schumer — passed the test save for Murray.

But not only did she fail the test — she lied as well.

As noted by Liberty Counsel last month following New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s signing of a radical new abortion law, infanticide is now essentially legal in the far-left state:

“The so-called ‘Reproductive Health Act,’ recently signed into law by New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, authorizes the murder of unborn babies up to the point of birth for any reason and revokes medical care for babies who are born alive after a failed abortion.”

Originally introduced in the Senate two years ago, Sasse’s landmark piece of counter legislation had remained stalled despite it benefiting from a whopping 36 cosponsors. He reportedly reintroduced it last month in response to an outbreak of startling pro-infanticide rhetoric and actions by the left.

Then last week he scheduled an expedited vote for the bill in response to, one, a Virginia state Democrat introducing a bill to allow late-term abortions til birth, and two, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam suggesting the bill would also allow for post-birth abortions, i.e., infanticide.

“[O]n Monday evening I’m going to be asking unanimous consent for senators to come to the floor and pass an abortion survivors protection act, an abortion survivors born-alive piece of legislation,” the proudly pro-life GOP senator said on the Senate floor last Wednesday. “I’m going to ask all 100 senators to come to the floor and be against infanticide. This shouldn’t be complicated.”

Listen:

He was right. It shouldn’t have been complicated. Yet thanks to Democrat obstruction, it was.

In a speech made on the Senate floor prior to the unanimous consent “vote” Monday, he warned how powerful the radical abortion lobby within the Democrat Party has become.

“Just a few years ago the abortion lobby was really clear in its talk in hoping that abortion would be ‘safe, and legal, but rare'” he said. “This was the slogan. Abortion would be ‘safe, legal, and rare.’ Now we’re talking about keeping the baby comfortable while the doctor have a debate about infanticide.”

Murray’s stunning vote makes it clear he was right.

“This is a sad day for this body,” he added in a statement made afterward. “It shouldn’t be controversial to say that a newborn child deserves to be treated with dignity and humanity. It shouldn’t be difficult to say that babies who survive an abortion shouldn’t be left to die cold and alone on that table. I’m sad but I’m not discouraged, Mr. President.”

“I’m actually encouraged by the strong group of senators who have cosponsored this legislation and who have come to the floor to support it tonight. And I’m encouraged by the millions and millions and millions of pro-life Americans who continue to speak the truth in love.”

Social media was far less congenial about the whole matter.
