The sheer hatred of President Donald Trump is driving Democrats to do some really troubling things, like calling for a ban on children wearing MAGA hats.
Rep. John Yarmuth, D-Ky., did just that in response to the non-story sweeping the nation over the weekend of Catholic students from his state allegedly disrespecting a Native American veteran on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial — the media’s version of the story failed to hold up as additional footage came out.
“I am calling for a total and complete shutdown of teenagers wearing MAGA hats until we can figure out what is going on. They seem to be poisoning young minds,” Rep. John Yarmuth tweeted Sunday morning.

Yarmuth, who is chairman of the House Budget Committee, followed the first tweet up with an attack on Trump, blaming the president for the “racial hatred” that didn’t happen quite the way the anti-Trump media spun it.
“The conduct we saw in this video is beyond appalling, but it didn’t happen in a vacuum. This is a direct result of the racist hatred displayed daily by the President of the United States who, sadly, some mistake for a role model,” the Democrat tweeted.

The Native American is an activist identified as Nathan Phillips, an Omaha elder, Vietnam Veteran and former director of the Native Youth Alliance, and a video that went viral shows a smirking student wearing a MAGA hat standing in the vet’s face as he was said to be holding a ceremony on the Lincoln Memorial steps.
The students are from Covington Catholic High School in Covington, Ky., and were in Washington for the March for Life. The Indigenous People’s March was scheduled for the same day, which is why Phillips was there.
The kids proved to be a two-fer for the liberal media, smearing Trump supporters and March for Life participants in one fell swoop.

When Yarmuth got blown up on Twitter for his fascist-like suggestion, he did exactly what you might expect a D.C. politician to do — he claimed he was joking.
…while getting in another shot at Trump.
“The President’s fans seem far more upset by my (obvious) joke about banning hats than they were when the President said literally the same thing about banning actual human beings. Go figure,” the pompous lawmaker wrote.
He followed that up with: “And if there was any question, I am a passionate supporter of the 1st Amendment. I will always defend the right to wear MAGA hats. Just not the un-American policies they represent.”

Never mind that the claim that he was joking came over seven hours later.
Meanwhile, the high school students involved are being vilified on the left, to include calls for their deaths from Hollywood producer Jack Morrissey, who quickly retreated behind the cloak of Twitter privacy.
The reaction to Yarmuth’s claim that he was joking was no less intense to his initial call to do away with the First Amendment.
