Dem Rep catches lib heat for claiming he’s ‘Asian trapped in a white body’, digs deeper with apology

A newly elected congressman from Hawaii just learned the hard way that quips — as in jokey-jokey statements not designed to be taken seriously — are effectively banned in the Democrat Party.

During a speech Tuesday at a Washington, D.C. event reportedly intended to be a “celebration of Asian-American and Pacific Islander members of the 116th Congress,” Rep. Ed Case, who represents a predominately Asian district, appeared to try to endear himself to the crowd with some humor.

“I’m an Asian trapped in a white body,” he said, according to Nicholas Wu of the National Journal.

In a statement issued later to The Washington Post, he explained that, despite the statement clearly being a joke, there was a great deal of truth to it: As someone who grew up around the Asians of Hawaii all his life, Case had “absorbed” much of his constituents’ culture and lifestyle.

“Like so many others from Hawaii who treasure our multicultural heritage, I have absorbed and live the values of our many cultures,” he said. “They and not my specific ethnicity are who I am, and I believe that this makes me an effective advocate on national issues affecting our API community.”

This is called multiculturalism, and it’s supposed to be one of America’s defining traits — the idea that the U.S. is a “melting pot” of different cultures, races and religions intermixing.

Except that members of the very party that purports to be a champion of multiculturalism and cultural mixing took the greatest offense to Case’s completely benign remark.

Observe:

It’s unclear why a politician declaring solidarity with a minority group — albeit with humor, which apparently is outlawed on the left — inspired such tremendous outrage.

“I regret if my specific remarks to the national API community on my full absorption of their concerns caused any offense,” Case added in his statement to the Post, though his spokesperson noted that he’d just been commenting “on what his Japanese-American wife sometime says about him.”

HERE’S WHAT YOU’RE MISSING …

The unhinged response to the congressman’s remark does speak to the left’s growing disdain for any and all culture mixing and intermingling. According to far-leftists, it’s almost as if people of different ethnicities/races/cultures should segregate themselves from one another.

Ergo the left’s promotion of inherently racist ideas such as black only events, white privilege and, most notably, cultural appropriation, the idea that a member of one race or ethnicity is barred from participating in the cultural behaviors and events of other races/ethnicities.

The global left’s growing belief in Ku Klux Klan-equivalent ideas about race and ethnicity has grown so intense that just last year a British celebrity chef came under fire for preparing a special rice dish that reportedly “appropriated” some concepts from Jamaican cuisine.

And a couple months before that happened, an American high school student faced intense backlash after she attended her prom while adorned in a traditional Chinese dress.

At this rate it likely won’t be long til the left says that eating the food of another race/ethnicity or perhaps even just speaking with a member of another race/ethnicity counts as an act of bigotry.

The tragic irony is that the only observable bigotry is that of those far-leftists who subscribe to such blatantly antiquated, backwards ideas about race and ethnicity.
