Rod Rosenstein is leaving DOJ. Many are speculating about next moves.

Scandal-plagued Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein is expected to depart from his position at the Justice Department in upcoming weeks, albeit voluntarily and not via a termination.

Justice Department officials confirmed with Fox News that the long-criticized deputy AG plans to voluntarily step down from his position as soon as Attorney General nominee Bill Barr is confirmed.

“Rosenstein wants to ensure a smooth transition for incoming AG Nominee Bill Barr and plans to transition out of the job in the coming weeks. … Rosenstein long thought of his time as DAG as a two-year position and the two-year mark is coming soon, “Fox reported.

Following then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s unexpected ouster two months ago, President Donald Trump installed Sessions’ chief of staff, Matthew G. Whitaker, as acting AG. A month later he nominated Barr, a former Bush administration AG, as a permanent replacement.

Rosenstein’s imminent departure has already triggered widespread trepidation from leftists on social media. They believe that without his protection, special counsel Robert Mueller’s similarly scandal-plague investigation into Russian collusion may be doomed.

Look:

Leftists believe without evidence that Whitaker and Barr are both so-called “Trump loyalists” who intend to interfere in and/or even halt Mueller’s investigation.

The far-left began trotting out these conspiratorial theories the moment Whitaker was installed as Session’s temporary replacement back in November. They pointed to personal views he had expressed about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and special counsel Mueller.

Three years ago he admitted that he would have indicted Clinton over her improper handling of State Department correspondence. In an op-ed published a year later at CNN, he took issue with Mueller’s unrestrained power and warned that his investigation was beginning to resemble a “witch hunt.”

Note that these opinions were issued before Whitaker’s tenure as acting AG. The same may not be said of disgraced former FBI special agent Peter Strzok, a left-wing “hero” who expressed virulently anti-Trump sentiments while working on Mueller’s investigation team.

It’s unclear why the same members of the left who sang Strzok’s praises find Whitaker’s opinions on Clinton and Mueller to be so disconcerting.

It’s also unclear why they fear Barr, a man so moderate politically speaking that even noted Democrats have said that Trump “made an excellent choice in William Barr.”

Odder still is the left’s lack of concern over Rosenstein’s own shady history. According to some experts, when he appointed Mueller as special counsel two years ago, he did so illegally and unconstitutionally.

In the past few years Rosenstein has likewise been a “no show” for congressional hearings, been accused of treason and been threatened with impeachment for stonewalling congressional requests.

Last summer 11 GOP congressmen led by Reps. Jim Jordan and Mark Meadows filed articles of impeachment against him for hiding information from them, obstructing their oversight duties and abusing the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to illegally spy on former Trump campaign aides.

Somehow, someway Rosenstein has managed to remain at his post despite the numerous scandals he’s been involved with ever his appointment to the post in 2017.

Given his shady history, it’s no surprise that those loyal to the truth have been celebrating his departure:

In the words of former first lady Michelle Obama, “Bye, Felicia.”
