Following announcements Monday evening by every major news network that they intend to air President Donald Trump’s scheduled Oval Office address Tuesday at 9:00 pm EST, Democrat congressional leaders issued a statement demanding they be given air time for a rebuttal.
“Now that the television networks have decided to air the President’s address, which if his past statements are any indication will be full of malice and misinformation, Democrats must immediately be given equal airtime,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a joint statement.
Why? To push back on what they claim will be the president’s “misinformation” regarding the ongoing government shutdown.
The facts are clear: @realDonaldTrump has the power to stop hurting the country by re-opening the government and ending the #TrumpShutdown.

As of Tuesday, the government has been shutdown for 17 days, making it one of the longest government shutdowns in U.S. history.
The shutdown was triggered last month after Senate Democrats refused to lend their support to an omnibus spending bill that would have funded the government and also appropriated money for the wall that the president would like built along the southern U.S. border.
According to Democrats, spending money on a wall would be a wasteful endeavor that would do nothing to stop illegal immigration. But according to the president, congressional Republicans and the Republican National Committee, that’s a bald-faced lie.
A new website, BorderFacts.com, launched this week by the RNC notes the following four facts:
“Fact #1: In four Customs and Border Protection sectors where physical barriers have been expanded — El Paso, Yuma, Tucson, and San Diego — illegal traffic has dropped by at least 90%.”
“Fact #2: In fiscal year 2018, U.S. Border Patrol seized or helped seize 282,000 pounds of cocaine, 248,000 pounds of methamphetamine, 6,500 pounds of heroin, and 2,400 pounds of fentanyl.”
“Fact #3: In 2018, over 17,000 adults arrested at the border had prior criminal records. This included over 6,000 gang members, a major number of those members were from MS-13.”
“Fact #4: The Democrats would rather risk the safety of hard-working Americans than work with President Trump to secure our nation’s borders. But in 2013, all 54 Senate Democrats, including Chuck Schumer, voted to pass legislation that provided $46 billion to build a physical barrier on the border.”
“Fact #5: Nancy Pelosi and her hyper-liberal Congressional colleagues just passed a bill to give $54 BILLION to foreign governments, but Democrats won’t allow just $5 billion to secure our borders and protect American citizens.”
The president is expected to lay out some of these facts in his speech Tuesday evening.
I am pleased to inform you that I will Address the Nation on the Humanitarian and National Security crisis on our Southern Border. Tuesday night at 9:00 P.M. Eastern.

According to reports, the president may also use his speech to declare a national emergency so that he may bypass the authority of Congress and begin construction of a border wall immediately.
While some sources say the president boasts the authority to do as such, others have warned that he could face pushback from the country’s left-wing-dominated courts.
What also remains unclear is whether the public at large would support such a move. A non-scientific poll conducted by Nashville station WKRN over the weekend found that out of 16,852 participants, 59 percent would support Trump declaring a national emergency.
This support likely stems from an emerging awareness among the American people of the immense costs being borne by families like them because of illegal immigration:
The response on social media seems to mirror the response seen at WKRN.
