As Dems bail on border security, new ICE report details terrorists and criminals flowing into US

With a government shut down upon us after Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and his Democratic caucus opted to put politics over protecting the American people by refusing to fund border security, new data shows just how dangerous our failed immigration system actually is.

And many of the same Democrats who refuse to steer money to secure our southern border have been calling for abolishing U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, which is tasked with enforcing our immigration laws.

How critical ICE’s role is can be seen in its Removal Operations Report, which covers the Fiscal Year 2018 and details the dangerous individuals who were removed.

In the period from Oct. 1, 2017, to Sept. 30, 2018, ICE conducted 256,085 removals of illegal aliens, an increase of 13 percent over FY 2017, CNS News noted from the report. Of this total, 42 removals of “known or suspected terrorists” took place, along with 5,872 removals of “known or suspected gang members.”

If that’s not troubling enough, at least 145,262 of those removed from the country had criminal convictions, according to the report.

In addition to dangerous individuals being removed, massive amounts of drugs were apprehended.

The removals included aliens arrested by ICE and those who were apprehended by Customs and Border Patrol and then turned over to ICE.

Yet, Democrats want to do away with ICE?

It’s enough to make Americans seriously question not only the party’s values, but it’s priorities.

And the calls to abolish ICE have a negative impact on the morale of Border Patrol agents, Customs and Border Protection chief Carla Provost told The Hill earlier this year.

“It certainly impacts the morale of my men and women. I think just that the negative climate on the work that they’re doing,” she said, explaining the agencies work hand in hand in securing the border.

“ICE is a critical component,” the agency chief said. “CBP — Border Patrol — we work very closely, hand in hand, day in and day out … We couldn’t do our jobs without ICE.”

“We have to have ICE,” Provost added. “The Border Patrol has to have ICE because it’s not our job to do the detention portion — and we have to have that ability. ICE brings so much to the table.”
