An illegal immigrant whose infant died six weeks after being released from an ICE family detention center filed a $60 million wrongful-death claim against the United States, accusing it of providing substandard medical care.
Yazmin Juarez alleges that her 1-year-old daughter Mariee contracted a respiratory illness while being detained at a family detention center in Dilley, Texas, the AP reported. Yazmin claims ICE released the pair while Mariee was still sick. Um, it’s not a hospital.
Juarez and Mariee — who are from Guatemala — entered the US illegally after jumping the border in Texas. Juarez’s infant would probably still be alive if they hadn’t made the dangerous trek to the US.
Yazmin Juarez and Mariee were released from the ICE family detention center in Texas, but Mariee died 6 weeks later in Philadelphia after being hospitalized for respiratory failure.
Keep in mind that American taxpayers are footing all the medical bills, which could have been obviated had there been a border wall to prevent mom and child from entering the US illegally.
Juarez is demanding a $60 million settlement from the US, saying she will file a lawsuit if the government doesn’t settle her claim.
Her attorney, R. Stanton Jones of the law firm Arnold & Porter, said the government has six months to respond to her claim.
It’s unclear how a poor, uneducated single mom from Guatemala managed to hire a fancy Washington, D.C. law firm to champion her open-borders cause.
The wrongful-death claim was filed against several federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security and ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement).
“Having made the decision to jail small children, the U.S. government is responsible to provide living conditions that are safe, sanitary and appropriate,” said lawyer R. Stanton Jones.
In a statement, ICE reaffirmed that it provides good medical care to illegal-alien detainees. “ICE takes very seriously the health, safety and welfare of those in our care,” said a rep.
It’s not surprising that Yazmin Juarez’s daughter contracted a respiratory illness after living among other illegal immigrants.

“The Government of Baja, California reported treating 818 respiratory infections and providing 1,286 general medical consultations to members of the migrant caravan,” the San Diego Tribune reported last week.
Yazmin Juarez says she’s seeking asylum in the United States, but most illegal immigrants are not political refugees with legitimate asylum claims.
In reality, they are economic migrants who merely want to come to the US to live a better life — in which case, they need to get in line like everyone else and wait their turn.
Most of the illegals in the migrant caravans stampeding toward the US border have refused offers of asylum and employment in Mexico, saying they want to come to the United States.
These migrant crises — which have been getting worse over the decades — are making a strong case for President Trump’s border wall. It is time.
