Dershowitz predicts Mueller report will be politically ‘devastating’ for Trump, but rebuttal will be ready

Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz believes special counsel Robert Mueller‘s final report will be politically “devastating” for President Donald Trump, but if true, that’s not necessarily the worst news.

Appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” Dershowitz said he does not think Mueller will criminally implicate the president — meaning less fodder for House Democrats pursuing impeachment.

“I think the report is going to be devastating to the president,” Dershowitz told anchor George Stephanopoulos. “And I know that the president’s team is already working on a response to the report.”

“The critical questions are largely political,” he noted. “When I say devastating, I mean it’s going to paint a picture that’s going to be politically very devastating.”

Dershowitz, who’s seen as Trump-friendly, was adamant that Jerome Corsi, who he called a “conspiracy theorist,” will not be used as a witness — Corsi is reportedly in plea negotiations with Mueller regarding his connections to Trump confidant Roger Stone.

Pointing to new Attorney General Matthew Whitaker, the former law professor said it “was a very hard question” to say when the report would be released, but added it will likely be released in tandem with a rebuttal from Trump’s legal team.

“It will be made public, probably with a response alongside,” he said. “The president will say, ‘Ah, look, it’s political, there’s their account and there’s our account,’ and the American public will have to judge the credibility.”

Meanwhile, social media users remain skeptical that Mueller has much of anything… here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
