Trey Gowdy investigates Ivanka Trump’s emails, beating Dems to the punch

Democrats suddenly care about emails — after spending years insisting that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s mass-deletion of 33,000 government emails was inconsequential.

Liberals gleefully noted that Republican Congressman Trey Gowdy — the outgoing chair of the House Oversight committee — asked the White House to provide more info about Ivanka Trump’s use of a personal email account during the first 6 months of her tenure as a presidential adviser.

Gowdy’s action underscores that unlike Democrats, Republicans police their own if they think there was a rules violation. It should also be pointed out that President Trump is not doing anything to obstruct the process.

Gowdy set a December 5 deadline for the White House to respond to his letter, where he wrote:

In light of the importance and necessity of preserving the public record and doing so in a manner that is reflective of relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, the Committee must assess whether the White House took adequate steps to archive Ms. Trump’s emails and prevent a recurrence.”

Ivanka’s rep issued a statement noting that her email situation is vastly different from Hillary Clinton’s use of an unauthorized, unsecured private email server to transmit classified intel during her tenure as Secretary of State from 2009 to 2013.

“To address misinformation being peddled about Ms. Trump’s personal email:

  • She did not create a private server in her house or office;
  • There was never classified information transmitted;
  • The account was never transferred or housed at Trump Organization;
  • No emails were ever deleted and
  • The emails have been retained in the official account in conformity with records preservation laws and rules.

“When concerns were raised in the press 14 months ago, Ms. Trump reviewed and verified her email use with White House Counsel and explained the issue to congressional leaders.”

President Trump told reporters that Ivanka has already turned over all her emails to be archived as part of the public record.

“They weren’t classified like Hillary Clinton’s, they weren’t deleted like Hillary Clinton,” President Trump said. “Ivanka wasn’t doing anything to hide her emails, unlike Hillary, who deleted 33,000.”

Trump added: “There was no hiding, there was no deleting like Hilary Clinton did. There was no [unauthorized, unsecured private email] server.”

Meanwhile, Fox News co-hosts on The Five erupted into a heated debate over the issue.

Greg Gutfeld said the liberal shrieking about “hypocrisy” is laughable because there’s no comparison between Ivanka’s email incident and Hillary’s 4-year use of an unsecured, private email server and deletion of 33,000 government emails.

“I think the key word here is ‘hundreds’ of emails,” Gutfeld said. “Generally in that position, you go through tens of thousands of emails. It’s not a fair comparison by numbers. However, if we find out that she did it over a long period of time, then that’s a different story.”

An enraged Juan Williams fumed: “You have these people engaged in an act of hypocrisy so blatant and obnoxious, I’m amazed that you can sit here and not say this isn’t right!”

Jesse Watters shot back: “Did Ivanka acid-wash 30,000 emails under subpoena?”

Guest co-host Kennedy said what Ivanka did was dumb, but you cannot compare her emails to Hillary’s criminal server activities.

“It’s really irresponsible of Ivanka Trump to do this and open herself up to this kind of criticism.

After what we have been through with Hillary Clinton, everyone should be more responsible when it comes to emails. You don’t invite these kinds of comparisons which are false comparisons.

But we’re not talking about Hillary Clinton ‘sending emails.’ The way she tried to minimize the story was so incredibly offensive and skirted accountability [is the real issue].

We are talking about Hillary sending top-secret, classified information over a private server that had very little security and almost no oversight.

In addition to that, deleting 30,000 emails of which we do not know the content, and then miraculously, 600,000 of them show up on Anthony Weiner’s laptop.

The levels of irresponsibility [are shocking]. I am not excusing what Ivanka Trump did. I’m just saying it’s not the same thing, so let’s stop pretending it is.”
