Mass meltdown over Ivanka’s use of a private email, tho completely different than Hillary’s. Her attorney fires back.

A bombshell report about Ivanka Trump sending government related emails using her personal email account sparked a multitude of reactions such as that of CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin.

The CNN legal analyst blasted the first daughter for her “arrogance” and “stupidity” following the Washington Post report that she sent hundreds of emails via her personal account that were related to government matters.

“Irony is dead!” Toobin exclaimed on CNN Monday, referring to report in light of the ongoing criticism of Hillary Clinton – including by President Donald Trump – for her use of a private email server when she was secretary of state.

“The arrogance, the incredible arrogance — with a little measure of stupidity — thinking that, after watching this campaign, which she had a pretty good seat for, and then not being scrupulous about her e-mail practices is remarkable,” Toobin told host John Berman.

But Toobin doubted that Ivanka Trump will face legal trouble for the alleged actions.

“Most people realize that government officials do use their private e-mail occasionally. Hillary Clinton did it, too. It is not fundamentally a big deal. The news media made it a big deal. Donald Trump made it a big deal,” he said. “It’s technically not within the rules, but everybody in government does it. This is the problem. This is why Hillary Clinton got a very raw deal.”

Concerns that Ivanka, as her father’s senior adviser, may have violated federal law as she sent “hundreds” of emails about government business, were dismissed by her lawyer who slammed the “misinformation being peddled” in the media.

“To address misinformation being peddled about Ms. Trump’s personal email, she did not create a private server in her house or office, there was never classified information transmitted, the account was never transferred or housed at Trump Organization, no emails were ever deleted, and the emails have been retained in the official account in conformity with records preservation laws and rules,” Peter Mirijanian, the spokesperson for Trump’s ethics lawyer Abbe Lowell, told Fox News in a statement, making a clear reference to the issues involved in Clinton’s email scandal.

Toobin agreed that the issue with Clinton was different.

“It is a big difference between her and Hillary Clinton. She was the secretary of state. We lived through years of this conversation,” he said.

The Washington Post report even acknowledged that Trump’s emails did not contain any classified or sensitive government information.

“When concerns were raised in the press 14 months ago, Ms. Trump reviewed and verified her email use with White House Counsel and explained the issue to congressional leaders.” Mirijanian said in his statement.

Trump had used her personal account before she was briefed on ethics rules, Mirijanian had told the Post. On the contrary, Clinton sent classified materials – some top secret – using a private server she set up to handle almost all of her government business while she served under former President Obama.

The debate over Trump versus Clinton’s emails got heated on CNN’s “Cuomo Prime Time” Monday as conservative activist Niger Innis locked horns with the Washington Post’s Catherine Rampell. Cuomo kicked off the segment by establishing that he was not suggesting Trump and Clinton’s actions were the same, but remarked that “the irony is rich.”

Rampell argued that the “high crime and misdemeanor” status afforded to Clinton over her actions were overblown in light of the fact that not only the first daughter, but her husband Jared Kushner and many others in the Trump administration – including former Chief White House Strategist Steve Bannon and former Chief of Staff Reince Priebus – also used private accounts.

Innis fired back explaining how Clinton’s use of a private server and the transmitting of classified material clearly sets the two examples apart.

“We had an entire campaign about this and you’re to tell me that Ivanka Trump had no idea that this was against the rules?” Rampell asked. “That just beggars belief.”

“You want to make a proper comparison” Innis responded, “compare Ivanka Trump to Chelsea Clinton.”

Rampell fired back that Clinton’s daughter was never a senior White House adviser like Trump.

After initially reporting that officials claimed Trump violated federal rules, the Washington Post later in the report acknowledged that she “could have” broken that law.

“Like most people, before entering into government service, Ms. Trump used a private email,” Mirijanian explained in a statement. “When she entered the government, she was given a government email account for official use. While transitioning into government, until the White House provided her the same guidance they had to others who started before she did, Ms. Trump sometimes used her private account, almost always for logistics and scheduling concerning her family.”
