Congressman Dan Crenshaw, a Navy SEAL, dismissed liberals’ faux outrage over President Trump’s last-minute decision to skip a Veterans Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
Trump cited bad weather for the move, but unconfirmed rumors swirled that the cancellation was due to a foiled assassination attempt. The president later conceded that he should’ve attended the ceremony, and reaffirmed his support for the Armed Forces — which has never wavered.
Predictably, Democrats and the liberal media slammed President Trump’s decision to not visit Arlington, suggesting that means he doesn’t support the troops.
Dan Crenshaw — a Navy SEAL who reacted with class after being mocked by “Saturday Night Live” for losing an eye in Afghanistan — said he knows President Trump well and is not offended that he didn’t go to Arlington on Veterans Day.
“I’ve been to Arlington multiple times to bury my friends,” Congressman Crenshaw told CNN. “I know the president on a very personal level. He has treated those Gold Star families very well. He has embraced them and has been very good to them. I would’ve liked to see him at Arlington, but I’m not offended that he didn’t go.”
Crenshaw underscored that most military personnel and veterans love and respect President Trump because of what he does (like when he gave the military a raise) — and not for empty gestures that politicians participate in for good PR.
“I don’t think it necessarily affects us — where he shows up to in a ceremonial fashion,” Crenshaw pointed out. “What affects us is: Are you giving us a clear mission? Are you giving us the equipment we need to do it? Are you raising pay for the military? And he has done all of these things. That’s what matters to me as a veteran.”
President Trump has repeatedly expressed his gratitude and pride in the brave men and women who serve in the Armed Forces. And most military families embrace Trump in a way they did not do with past presidents because they know how much he supports them.
As BizPac Review reported, two grieving mothers who had lost their sons in battle thanked President Trump when he visited Arlington National Cemetery on Memorial Day in May 2017.
Alison Malachowksi is the mom of Staff Sgt. Jimmy Malachowski, who was killed in 2011. Mrs. Malachowksi told Trump she was heartbroken that Barack Obama never acknowledged her son’s sacrifice.
“Mr. Trump, my son was killed in Afghanistan in 2011, and nobody made any effort to acknowledge it,” Malachowksi said.
“I did,” Trump told her.
“It means a lot to me, it really does,” Mrs. Malachowksi said. “My son loved this country very, very much. Jimmy knew he wasn’t coming home. And he said, ‘Mama, I hope that people don’t forget that I ever lived.’ If you could just remember Jimmy, that would mean so much to me.”
“I will remember,” President Trump promised. “I will remember.”
