‘They never pulled my pass, but …’ Major Garrett reveals how he was treated under Obama when he was with Fox

Despite the demonstrably left-wing media’s portrayal of former President Barack Hussein Obama as a fervent pro-media advocate who always treated the media fairly, some say that he only treated those whom he liked well, i.e., those who acted as his sycophants.

For other media personalities — particularly those with Fox News, which unlike every other network tilts to the right instead of the left — their treatment by Obama was far different.

Take for instance the treatment experienced by current CBS chief White House correspondent and former Fox News senior White House correspondent Major Garrett.

“The [Obama] White House said it was at war with Fox News,” he said during an interview this week with The Hill. “I was its most visible editorial representative on the White House grounds as a senior White House correspondent.”

During his presidency Obama repeatedly bashed Fox News and its various hosts and pundits for questioning his administration’s actions. In 2013 he went so far as to blame Fox for the Affordable Care Act’s unpopularity.

Watch this and other examples of Obama bashing Fox in The Daily Caller montage below:

“The White House would always pull me aside and say, ‘Well, really, Major, we’re not at war with you,’ and I said, ‘Stop talking to me like that, because when you’re at war with my network, you by definition are questioning and assailing my journalistic credibility and the work I do here every day,'” Garrett continued. “‘So don’t tell me it’s not about me; it is about me.'”

“Now, they never tried to pull my pass, but they had this sort of arms-length relationship to Fox and tried to demonize it on a daily basis. So that’s another part of American history and journalism in the White House press corps I think at least should be noted at this moment.”

But it’s not being noted. Instead the same media that ignored Obama’s attacks on Fox News — including his surveillance of then-Fox reporter James Rosen in 2013 — are now continually hammering President Donald Trump for allegedly mistreating them, and all while Obama continues to target Fox and now even its viewers as well.

Meanwhile, the left-wing media are now mocking Garrett for his criticism of Obama.

“Damn. Sounds rough,” a critic at Splinter News, which the mainstream media consider to be reputable, sarcastically wrote. “A sitting president criticizing your network—which repeatedly spread misinformation about him—yet remaining professional towards you and allowing you to perform the day-to-day functions of your job.”

Obama went way beyond merely “criticizing” Fox. Even Snopes, a left-wing fact-checking site that does sometimes distort the truth, has admitted this:

“President Obama attempted to delegitimize Fox News by calling their oppositional stance ‘destructive’ for the country, took questions from Fox News correspondents less frequently than he did from those of other major networks in press briefings, and his administration expressed a willingness to exclude Fox reporters from interviews with top officials.”

One example of Garrett’s own confrontations with the former president may be seen below:

Obama also frequently shared misinformation about Fox, telling people for instance that Fox would portray poor people in a negative look to make him look bad.

This smear outraged the late and usually congenial Charles Krauthammer so much that he exclaimed during a radio interview at the time, “He doesn’t know a damn thing about Fox.”

Nor does Obama seem at all interested in learning more.
