Discovery taps CNN anchor to host new ‘border reality’ series, he also happens be a ‘liberal immigration activist’

The Discovery Channel is launching a new border patrol reality series and has tapped, as the host, a CNN anchor who happens to be a liberal immigration activist.

CNN’s Bill Weir has made no secret of his contempt for President Donald Trump’s immigration policies and now he will have the freedom of Discovery’s “Border Live” to cast a negative light on anyone who supports border enforcement or is against illegal immigration.

The new, live reality show will “document the work of law enforcement on the U.S.-Mexico border as well as the real lives, real moments and real stories of those that live and work along its remote stretches,” the network announced.

Weir, a CNN anchor and special correspondent who was once also co-anchor of Nightline on ABC, will be co-hosting the six-part multiplatform series – set to premiere December 5 at 9 p.m. on Discovery Channel – along with investigative journalist Lilia Luciano.

Weir tweeted about his decision to take the new job in a tweet earlier this month.

Discovery has not addressed, however, how this “truth and context on the border” will be achieved with a host who has very clear and one-sided opinions.

Weir’s social media is filled with his unquestionable stance on the issue.

In an op-ed for Mediaite, Caleb Howe calls out Weir’s bias and notes how his tweets touting his new gig is “practically bleeding with self-reverential, pious satisfaction.”

For a documentary news show about the border, one might expect a more dispassionate and less one-sided host. Weir has every right to express his preferred moral vision and personal interpretation of what is good and what is evil regarding immigration. But for a show that is about, in part, the people enforcing the border laws for which he has such hostility, it’s going to be a tough sell to say the least, to my even remotely conservative brethren.

Howe concluded his piece with the observation that “like so much of media today, it appears Discovery finds his avowed, open leftward slant to be a feature, not a bug.”
