Melania ‘just a former model,’ too dumb to make staff decisions, CNN panel implies in head-spinning segment

When in business to subvert the President of the United States, one must seize on any and all opportunities and that’s just what occurred Tuesday when CNN’s Jake Tapper and a merry band of Trump-bashers went into full pearl-clutching mode after first lady Melania Trump’s office released a public statement saying deputy national security adviser Mira Ricardel “no longer deserves the honor of serving in this White House.”

After all, a “former model” can’t possible hold an opinion that’s substantive. Just ask CNN contributor Amanda Carpenter.

The goal at hand, of course, is to portray the Trump White House as dysfunctional, where chaos is the order of the day and as we saw from CNN reporter Kate Bennett this week, who tried to “stir up trouble” between Mrs. Trump and her predecessor, the first lady is not above being targeted.

Looking past the fact that Tapper and his panel have no idea of the backstory at play here, it’s not like first ladies don’t wield significant influence. Nancy Reagan? Hillary Clinton? The only difference is that when it’s a Democrat, the first lady is propped up in the media as a strong, independent woman.

Tapper declared in response to the statement that he “has never seen anything like this,” and that was tame compared to what followed.

“Last time I checked we didn’t have a royal family, but they sure do like to act like it,” Carpenter said.

The left often accuses President Donald Trump of being a misogynist, but get a load of what she said next:

“Last time I checked the first lady didn’t have any national security experience so I prefer that other people make national security decisions rather than someone who is more than just a former model.”

Looking past the stunningly disrespectful smear of Mrs. Trump, the reality is that the first lady is NOT making staffing decisions in the White House, she shared her opinion.

CNN commentator Symone Sanders stayed true to the script, chiming in to say she is “very concerned about how this White House is operating.”

Next up was Mary Katharine Ham, once the voice of reasoned analysis prior to being hired by a network that all but dedicates 24/7 coverage to destroying Donald Trump.

“In this White House you have things ranging from unorthodox to bananas and this this went clear over in the bananas camp,” Ham said.

“It’s very very weird,” she added. “And I wonder as the shake-up — if there’s a continued shake-up — goes forward, how does somebody like [National Security Advisor] John Bolton react to the fact that someone else has veto power over his deputy’s help.”

Never mind that expressing an opinion falls well short of having “veto power.”

In a show of how upside down politics are today, it was left to Democratic strategist Paul Begala to introduce a little common sense into the discussion/Trump bashing.

“First ladies have always been influential,” he noted. “Edith Wilson ran the country when her husband had a stroke. Nancy Reagan fired the chief of staff to the president, but she did it behind the scenes. So what is wrong with more transparency, [Mrs. Trump] is being more open she being more transparent — now she should state her reasons.”

He did agree with Ham that this is not within the normal purview of the first lady’s role.

Begala likened it to “Survivor,” after Ham called the incident “a very Trump move” in that “when they have fights those fights are always public.”

But by far, Carpenter, the former senior staffer to Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, was the designated pit bull for the night.

“How hostile of a workplace is this? They treat people who go to serve them in good faith with such hostility and they slam the door on them as they go out. I mean what is the purpose here,” she said.

“Why is she dragging all this drama out? Why is she dragging us into this?” Carpenter whined, before getting back to the mission at hand, which is to undermine the Trump presidency. “I mean this is a really weird, bizarre development and it’s not the first time.”

Sanders, having yet to contribute anything meaningful to the discussion, weighed in  to ensure that she kept the streak going, pointing to the devastating fires in California to suggest… well, we’re not sure what she was suggesting, other than a means to run down the Trump family.

When Ham’s former sense of fair play got the better of her to accurately note that no one’s “being dragged” into anything, Tapper, Sanders and Carpenter all pushed back — which speaks volumes.

“I don’t know how you resist the first lady throwing shade on a sitting deputy national security official,” Tapper said, before bringing the focus back around to pointing out just how dysfunctional the White House is.
