American exceptionalism: We’re not ‘just another country’

We’re here. At the crossroads. At an election where America either continues to be exceptional, or we descend into a morally mongrel nation that has scuttled its hard-won greatness. This country faces a danger from which the nation needs to be spared. The menace is from those miscreants who claim America is not exceptional in its values and its greatness. Such notions are destructive malignancies, heaped on us by those who believe in Marxist multiculturalism and a worldwide government that would reduce America to kow-tow toadying, while financially subsidizing “needy” failing nations.

American citizens have been thrust into a period of great trial, yet those of us who believe in self-government are always on trial. We seem consistently in a fight with those who would put government bureaucrats in charge of our lives and futures. We fight also because there’s not much that’s more alarming than the notion that the “American Way” of life, the “American Creed,” may be coming to an end.

We detect this looming threat because we see power shifting from the states to Washington D.C., and power shifting from citizens to the government. And we notice government pushing more people to become dependent on “the state”. That is what Marx, Trotsky, Fidel Castro, Josef Stalin, and Hugo Chavez preached. Now, we hear the same twaddle from the likes of Bernie Sanders, George Soros, and Alexandria what’s-her-name.

We hear the term “The American Way,” but what is it, really? Well, for one thing it is what caused this country to become exceptional among nations. It is an idea, a concept of liberty and self-government under the Rule of Law, transformed into reality in our Constitution. It is a primary reason the U.S. is powerful and successful, able to enjoy the survival of ideas that work and the great economic results created by our capital markets. And this American power is what has kept the globe from massive conflicts over the past 70 years. It’s ludicrous when we hear a leader like Obama say that America is “just another ‘member of the international community.'” We’re just another country, that’s his meaning; a mockery of the major cornerstones of the American Way –limited government, individual rights, capitalism, living free and the pursuit of happiness—which have become the foundation for “the unprecedented increase in the human condition and knowledge over the last two centuries,” as stated in the Wall Street Journal. This included saving the world from fascism in WWII and from Soviet communism in the Cold War.

More specifically, The American Way promotes behavior norms in our country. It means working hard, educating yourself about self-government, the duties of citizens and self-governance, avoiding inactivity and idleness. It means understanding the lessons of history and what has proven to work and not work among nations. Seeking to become qualified for gainful employment. It involves not shouting down or being violent against a speaker with whom we disagree. Seeking out exposures to diverse arguments and points of view. Amy Wax from the Pennsylvania Law School adds: “Get married before you have children and strive to stay married for their sake. Go the extra mile for your employer or client. Be a patriot, ready to serve the country. Be neighborly, civic-minded, and charitable. Avoid coarse language in public. Be respectful of authority. Eschew substance abuse and crime.”

These norms can be considered as adult responsibility, and a major contributor to society’s productivity.  These are included among the principles, practices and policies that made this country exceptional, great, and a beacon of light for the rest of the world to follow. America rejects the fact that too many of the world’s nations believe some people are born to rule and the rest to obey. Too many among the world’s population have zero ability to move up in society, while too many in America’s mainstream media ridicule the idea of American greatness.

Wave bye-bye to America as we know it if these American norms get deep-sixed by the Left, who have introduced a slow poison into the vital organs of American life with their siren singing about multiculturalism.
