President Donald Trump has refuted an uncorroborated claim by The New York Times that Chinese and Russian operatives have been eavesdropping on his iPhone calls to friends.
“When President Trump calls old friends on one of his iPhones to gossip, gripe or solicit their latest take on how he is doing, American intelligence reports indicate that Chinese spies are often listening,” the TImes reported Wednesday, adding “Russian spies are routinely eavesdropping on the calls, as well.”
To back this salacious accusation that the president is a gossip queen who flagrantly violates the government’s protocols — which is something that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton actually did — the Times cited “several current and former officials,” all of whom chose to remain anonymous.
In two tweets posted Thursday morning, the president responded to this claim by labeling it another example of the media’s “fake news.”
“The New York Times has a new Fake Story that now the Russians and Chinese (glad they finally added China) are listening to all of my calls on cellphones. Except that I rarely use a cellphone, & when I do it’s government authorized. I like Hard Lines. Just more made up Fake News!” he wrote in one tweet.
Look:
The so-called experts on Trump over at the New York Times wrote a long and boring article on my cellphone usage that is so incorrect I do not have time here to correct it. I only use Government Phones, and have only one seldom used government cell phone. Story is soooo wrong!

In an additional tweet, the president blamed the highly partisan and toxic political environment in contemporary America on the media’s continuously “false and inaccurate reporting.”
“A very big part of the Anger we see today in our society is caused by the purposely false and inaccurate reporting of the Mainstream Media that I refer to as Fake News. It has gotten so bad and hateful that it is beyond description. Mainstream Media must clean up its act, FAST!” he wrote.

The political climate in America has become increasingly intense as angry rhetoric by certain political figures and members of the media escalates.
The rhetoric has ranged from liberal media pundits whitewashing the terrorist-like behavior of Antifa to Democrat politicians explicitly calling for the harassment of Trump administration officials.
The media have also repeatedly been caught using false claims and allegations to stir up anti-Trump animosity among the Democrat base.
After President Donald Trump referred to MS-13 gang members as “animals” earlier this year, for instance, the media twisted his words to accuse him of describing all illegal immigrants as “animals.” Included among the outlets that smeared the president was The New York Times:
Trump lashed out at undocumented immigrants during a White House meeting, calling those trying to breach the country’s borders “animals” https://t.co/aQNeu29T6e pic.twitter.com/ogrFKaWyDZ

The fact that this tweet still remains on the Times’ Twitter feed suggests those in the media — particularly those at the Times — have little interest in the actual facts.
Will media elites like CNN’s Jim Sciutto who was one of many to quickly to pounce on the NYT story and disseminate end up wearing egg on their faces, again?
There’s a phrase for this: security breach. https://t.co/FHfTab930N

Time will tell, but in the meantime the response on social media to the Times’ latest claim was widespread mockery and derision:
Seriously? And you wonder why you are slammed as #FakeNews?!?!?

The New York Times does not even attempt to report accurately on any event. The New York Times is the dominant FAKE NEWS print outlet in the world. WAKE up ADVERTISERS by buying ads in this paper you are supporting the destruction of our American democracy.

@nytimes …thank you again for the reminder of why you are FAKE NEWS! Honestly an article about @realDonaldTrump and his iPhone? My suggestion do your job and report the news not make up the news.
