Campaign ads for Rep. Beto O’Rourke have many wondering if they were created to help or hurt the Texas Senate candidate in his race against Sen. Ted Cruz.
Fans of the Democrat compiled cringe-worthy videos to help get out the vote but may have inadvertently made his opponent look cooler.
In a nod to “Grease,” one group of fans called “Esther’s Follies” pulled together a video titled “Betomaniac!” to supposedly support Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke. The video features a trio of “Beto’s Banditos” singing about the candidate in what many considered to be cheesy lyrics set to the Shangri-Las song, “Leader of the Pack.”
That 1960’s classic can be seen in the video below:
With the “dislikes” outnumbering the “likes” on YouTube, the pro-Beto video ad which was posted last week, left many confused about how it would get people voting for the darling of hip millennials. Comments by Twitter users drove that point home.

Wait, this was actually done by his campaign? I thought it was a joke. Wow.

But another video made by what appeared to be a community of O’Rourke voters may prove even worse as a tool to rally the masses for the Democrat. Featuring an incredibly awkward rendition of the Village People’s “YMCA” set to pro-B-E-T-O lyrics, the short video also includes a young girl struggling to figure out the moves.

She isn’t the only one trying to figure out what’s going on.

Surely $34 million could buy Beto a better choreographer.

I wish I could unsee this!
— Jules (@JewelsAnneMay) October 22, 2018
Aww. They look like they’re having fun and they’ll need to hang on to that memory when Beto loses and slinks away with his $38,000,000 war chest.

Now imagine them practicing all that.

Looks like Cruz has nothing to worry about if O’Rourke’s supporters keep helping out this way.
