The outlook for Sen. Heidi Heitkamp’s reelection campaign just slid from bad to horrible, and all thanks to her thoughtless decision to out several women as sexual assault survivors in one of her campaign ads without first asking for their permission.
“Survivors of assault who had taken care to avoid the subject were suddenly bombarded by questions asking them to explain to their loved ones why their name appeared on this list,” the women said in a stern statement Tuesday, adding that some of them weren’t even sexual assault survivors.
During an interview two days later with CNN, one of the women on the list — this one an actual survivor — expounded further on what she’s had to deal with because of Heitkamp’s appalling campaign move.
Listen to part one of the interview below:
“I was very private about the things that had happened to me in the past,” survivor Lexi Zhorela said, noting that things are different now.”From now on when I walk around I’ll know that they know that’s what has happened to me and forever, for the rest of my life, I will have to hold the title as a survivor.”
“And that wasn’t my choice. I never made that choice in the first place but now I’m gonna have to live with it for the rest of my life.”
She does however have a choice on whom to vote for come the midterms, and though Zhorela happens to be a liberal who’d previously planned to vote for Heitkamp, she doesn’t anymore.
“I do plan on voting, but I’m definitely going to have to do my research and figure out the right choice for the situation. But as for right now, she definitely lost my vote,” she said.
Listen to the odd way the CNN host replied below:
Host Erica Hill fired back by questioning previously made assertions by Zhorela that Heitkamp’s camp hadn’t reached out to her yet.
“I just want to let you know that Sen. Heitkamp’s office has just let us know here that they say they are going to be reaching out to each person individually. Again, this is what you were told yesterday, correct?” she said in a seemingly stern voice.
“I don’t think it was yesterday. It was the night before,” Zhorela replied, at which point the host asked her what she plans to say when she finally speaks with the North Dakota senator.
“I would like to ask her how something so reckless and so careless could have happened. I still don’t understand how it could have happened — how you can just take somebody else’s name without their consent and plaster it all over wherever you want just for what … political gain!?” she said.
Probably. In fact, the way the radical left has been reacting on social media to her CNN interview suggests that all Democrats really do care about is politics.

My life is ruined! Here, let me go on international TV to stake my claim of how my privacy was violated instead of people just forgetting about in in 24 hours.

She is voluntarily going on CNN and talking about it, showing her face and all. I didnt even know about it until seeing her interview. Bullshit.

Going on CNN probably isn’t the best way to demonstrate that you’re devastated that your name was revealed in a local polital ad.

Democrats don’t seem to care an iota about what she’s been through. To them, she represents a liability, and as a liability she needs to be demeaned and discarded just like Karen Monahan and the countless other women who’ve been abused in some way or another by Democrats.
