CNN White House reporter Kaitlan Collins issued an apology after past tweets with gay slurs resurfaced from her college days.
The old tweets were re-posted on social media, including by the gay Republican group Log Cabin Republicans, which shared screenshots of now-deleted tweets from Collins while she was in college.

Collins had called another Twitter user a “fag” in one tweet said “Idk if I wanna room with a lesbian” in another tweet.
Past tweets reveal @CNN reporter @kaitlancollins called people “fag” and was uncomfortable around lesbians.

She issued an apology when following reports of her years-old tweets from when she attended the University of Alabama.
When I was in college, I used ignorant language in a few tweets to my friends. It was immature but it doesn’t represent the way I feel at all. I regret it and apologize.

Collins was dis-invited from a Rose Garden event at the White House back in July after rudely shouting “inappropriate” questions at President Donald Trump who was hosting European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker.
And last week at a press conference focused on the trade agreement with Mexico and Canada, Collins shouted questions at President Trump about then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who has been shredded over activities during his college years.
The old tweets and the apology from Collins generated a lot of reaction on Twitter.
I’m a proud gay man. And I am a proud friend of @kaitlancollins. Tho I’m disappointed that she ever used the word (even as an immature college kid), I can say with certainty it doesn’t reflect her feelings toward the LGBTQ community. She’s apologized and I accept that.

Digging up out-of-context tweets from 8 years ago and trying to get people fired for them is BS. I’ve disagreed w/ @kaitlancollins before, but she’s a solid reporter.
This is the exact kind of mob behavior that many of us fight against when aimed at the right. https://t.co/0PyeXB5SoL

Especially because we have no idea what the context of the tweets is…
There are certain people/groups on here that try to do this crap all the time to attack people and it pisses me off.

Some of The Daily Caller’s reporters called out the Log Cabin Republicans for their attempts to paint Collins as homophobic. Before joining CNN, Collins worked for the news outlet.
I’m sorry this is dumb. @kaitlancollins is a good reporter who works very hard to be fair and dragging up two tweets from seven years ago doesn’t change that https://t.co/g6mMqinX3L
— Peter J. Hasson (@peterjhasson) October 7, 2018
So we’re doing this again? Dragging someone for something they said more than six years ago? @kaitlancollins @CNN https://t.co/hZr6TRIpRy

Other Twitter users noted the obvious hypocrisy in reaction to Collins.
If this was a Fox News reporter that had old tweets using the word “fag,” Oliver Darcy and Brian Stelter would have reached out to Fox News 37 times by now asking them if they think it’s acceptable to have that kind of person on payroll. We’ve seen this happen so many times.

Um, no. He was accused of sexual assault without any evidence. Social media posts are evidence. Nice try, tho.

The left set the standard and now it’s coming back to bite them. They can’t get away with the absurd double standard forever.
— Caleb SkHull ??? (@CalebJHull) October 7, 2018
Hey, what goes around comes around. Liberals should have to live up to the same standard they put on us. CNN fired @realJeffreyLord for much less.
— Tom Schroeder (@TomASchroeder) October 7, 2018
Normally I’d agree, but where is the line now? It’s okay to bring up drinking from 30+ years ago, it’s okay to bring up casting couch agreements from 20+ years ago, it’s okay to hold Joy Reid to account for 10+ years, but not her? They set the new normal.
— CalTexMix (@CalTexMix) October 8, 2018
We told them they wouldn’t like the new rules they made. Sorry but I got nothing for her.
— Pockets (@Hairypockets) October 8, 2018
You ask for that which you and your network do not offer to others. #hypocrite

Sorry I’m not sure about whether we should accept your apology.
Please answer:
Are you a liberal?- if yes Media and elites will accept your apology and thank you for your honesty.
Are you a Conservative?- if yes- you will be fired, doxed and vilified in perpetuity.
