Following Sen. Susan Collin’s announcement Friday afternoon that she intends to support Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the high court, a number of liberal media reporters aimed their disappointment squarely at creepy porn lawyer Michael Avenatti.
“THIS is why Democrats did NOT want Michael Avenatti to get involved in this fight. Collins is specifically citing Swetnick’s ‘gang rape’ accusation as something that made her think she needed to give Kavanaugh the benefit of the doubt,” one reporter, Rachel Bade of Politico, tweeted.
Several other so-called unbiased reporters followed suit:

Avenatti thrust himself into the battle over Kavanaugh’s confirmation in September by trotting out dubious allegations from a since-discredited woman who claimed without evidence that the nominee had participated in “gang rape” high school parties decades ago.
Collins addressed these allegations in her speech Friday, saying, “This outlandish allegation was put forth without any credible supporting evidence and simply parroted public statements of others.”
“That such an allegation can find its way into the Supreme Court confirmation process is a stark reminder about why the presumption of innocence is so ingrained in our American consciousness.”

Liberal reporters blame these allegations for tarnishing their joint effort to derail Kavanaugh’s confirmation. To hear them tell it, allegations by the nominee’s other accusers — Christine Blasey Ford and Debora Ramirez — would have been sufficient to halt his confirmation had Avenatti just kept quiet.
“By the end of the confirmation battle, the Swetnick allegation became a key GOP talking point — alleged proof positive that, while allegations such as Ford’s could perhaps be taken seriously, this was at least in part a political effort using frivolous and ridiculous charges. That a man with eyes for the 2020 Democratic nomination was behind them made that argument easier to make,” reporter Aaron Blake of The Washington Post opined Friday.
The allegations by Ford and Ramirez were just as unsubstantiated as those by Swetnick. The media have nevertheless latched on Ford’s allegations in particular as proof of Kavanaugh’s guilt. Collins addressed these allegations as well in her speech Friday.
“[T]he four witnesses she named could not corroborate any of the events of that evening gathering where she says the assault occurred,” she said. “None of the individuals Professor Ford says were at the party has any recollection at all of that night.”
Correct. Kavanaugh, Mark Judge, PJ Smyth and Leland Keyser have all denied being aware of the party.

The allegations against Kavanaugh were already weak long before Avenatti entered the picture, though the argument can certainly be made that the creepy porn lawyer exacerbated the left’s credibility problem with his absurd “gang rape” allegations.
But does he feel any regret over the damage he caused? Of course not. Ever since Collins’ speech Friday afternoon, Avenatti has been busy lashing out anyone with the guts to call him out.
