Dems called out for cashing in on Kavanaugh debacle, waste no time fundraising like mad

While Democrats have slammed Republicans for their purported insensitivity and poor treatment of Christine Blasey Ford, they have wasted no time cashing in on her appearance on Capitol Hill.

Fresh into testimony by the woman accusing Brett Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her nearly four decades ago, Democrats were already fundraising and passing their final judgments against the Supreme Court nominee.

Sen. Mazie Hirono got the ball rolling with a request for donations because she is fighting Kavanaugh’s nomination.

“I am spending every minute of my day fighting the Republicans who are desperate to rush Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination and deny a fair investigation in the credible sexual misconduct allegations against him,” the Hawaii Democrat wrote.

Her constituents must be so happy she is representing them by “spending every minute” of her day focused on prejudging a man who should be innocent until proven guilty.

Meanwhile, The Wall Street Journal reported that Sen. Kamala Harris has had no shortage of anti-Kavanaugh propaganda on her Facebook page.

“The California Democrat’s campaign has posted some 3,600 different Facebook ads about him, according to the social media site’s ad archive,” the WSJ reported Wednesday. “No other senator appears to be doing as much Kavanaugh-related advertising on Facebook.”

The California Democrat and member of the Senate Judiciary Committe inundated her Facebook page with “dozens of active Kavanaugh ads” on Wednesday, one day before the nominee and his accuser were set to testify before Congress. Most of those are petitions which link to a fundraising page that suggests contributions of $15 or more to her campaign even though Harris is not up for re-election this year, WSJ reported.

The dirty politics being played by Democrats was even called out by liberal CNN when Sen. Jeff Merkley discussed a lawsuit he is filing against President Trump and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

The Oregon Democrat told CNN’s Kate Bolduan that his lawsuit is not a “desperate” move.

“It’s an unprecedented situation,” he said.

“But Senator, you’re saying this is a politics-free move? I ask that because we saw a fund-raing email come out from you,” Bolduan said. “If this is not a political move, why is there a fundraising email put out?”

Merkley skirted the direct question, explaining that it was some kind of effort to keep constituents in the loop. He then proceeded to school the CNN host on the Constitution.

“i f you can’t see the separation between the powers, Kate, then I’d really encourage you to read the Constitution and see the fundamental structure that’s being savaged by this president.”

Bolduan did not back down.

“Do you think you regret putting out a fundraising email on this if you want to make it look like it’s not politics?” she asked

“You’re the one bringing it up and making it political in that context,” Merkley said, when pressed. “I’m here talking to you about the fundamental nature of this violation of our Constitution.”

“I get it,” she responded. “But if it’s not about the politics then keep it politics-free.”

For Democrats, the Kavanaugh nomination, it seems, has always been about the politics.
