Chilling reasons conservative columnist started Go Fund Me Page for the Kavanaugh family

This is where we are America.

It’s a chilling day when a pillar of the community on his way to receive the biggest honor of his life, suddenly finds himself thrust into a media frenzy dedicated to destroying everything he’s worked for.

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help Brett Kavanaugh, the now notorious Trump-appointed nominee for Supreme Court Justice.

Not long ago, Kavanaugh no-doubt suspected he’d receive push back on his way to one of the nation’s most prestigious positions, but he surely never conceived that he’d be the victim of a seemingly endless and nasty smear campaign.

Kavanaugh did not ask for the monetary help, but conservative columnist John Hawkins took it upon himself to start the fund to help the embattled jurist and his family.

Part of Hawkins’ statement:

This is a horrible way to treat a good man who has dedicated his life to public service. So many unethical people are giving unprovable 36-year-old accusations the same weight as 6 FBI background checks, hundreds of hours of hearings and testimony under oath. It is disgraceful.

What I’d like to do is raise money for Brett Kavanaugh’s family to use for security or however they see fit.

Hawkins has set a goal of $100,000 and due to his own high visibility, has assured donors that all the money will go to the Kavanaugh family.

“We live in a country where innocent until proven guilty is supposed to mean something,” Hawkins wrote, noting the growing death threats made to Brett, his wife Ashley and even his young daughters.

“It’s supposed to be innocent until proven guilty, not innocent until accused. The idea that a man with an impeccable reputation can be destroyed by a woman who doesn’t know the time, date or location of the supposed attack 36 years ago and another whose memory is so foggy that she’s been telling her own friends she doesn’t know if Kavanaugh is involved is insane,” he added.

Kavanaugh has pledged to fight the claims, and spoke to Fox News Channel’s Marth MacCallum Monday night about the decades-old and uncorroborated allegations he vehemently denies.

While Kavanaugh hasn’t mentioned financial strife, Market Watch reported in July that Kavanaugh “could become the poorest Supreme Court Justice” and boasts a modest financial portfolio compared to his impressive accomplishments, as noted by Hawkins.

One can imagine the financial stress is also taking a toll.

Hawkins is asking for those who support Kavanaugh and the fundamental American principle of “innocent before proven guilty” to give what they can to the Go Fund Me page.

“If they can take down Kavanaugh with something this thin, why not the next judge? Why not any Republican in a close race? Why not Mike Pence, James Mattis or Ted Cruz?,” Hawkins asked.

“I don’t want to live in an America where a man who has gone through 6 FBI background checks can have his life ruined by a couple of dubious 36 year old allegations with no proof behind them.”
