In their rush to defend tennis player Serena Williams’ game-costing temper tantrums last week at the U.S. Open Tennis Championships, some left-wing pundits rushed right past the actual facts.
According to The New York Times, which deserves some credit for its due diligence, the actual facts show that over the past 20 years, male tennis players have been penalized for misbehavior for more often than their female counterparts.
This also applies to specific forms of misbehavior, including the “verbal abuse” and “racquet abuse” perpetrated by Williams during her match against Naomi Osaka of Japan.

Yet Williams and her supporters still claim that when Umpire Carlos Ramos of Portugal docked points from her for acting like a spoiled brat, he did so because of sexism.
What specifically happened is that Ramos first warned Williams against receiving instructions from her coach, Patrick Mouratoglou, who had been caught on video gesturing directions to her.
Moments later Williams smashed her racket in anger after losing a round to Osaka. Because of her, Ramos went ahead and deducted a full point from her for receiving coaching and losing her temper.
Unfortunately, losing a point only made the tennis star angrier, so she lashed out at Ramos by accusing him of being a “thief.” In response to this “verbal abuse,” Ramos then justifiably deducted another point from her Williams, thus leaving her with too few points to eke out a victory against Osaka.
Here’s a reminder of what all that looked like:
After the match, she rushed to the media to cry about alleged sexism.
“I’ve seen other men call other umpires several things, and I’m here fighting for women’s rights and women’s equality and all kinds of stuff, but for me to say ‘thief’ and for him to take a game? It made me feel like it was a sexist remark. I mean, he’s never taken a game from a man because he said thief. For me, it blows my mind,” she said.
Several in the media bought that narrative hook, line and sinker, including David Love of CNN, who decided to accuse Ramos of not only being a sexist but a racist as well. This is CNN.
“The unfair treatment displayed toward Serena Williams at the US Open is further proof that, in tennis, women are subjected to a double standard. That standard is particularly glaring in the case of female athletes of color,” David Love opined in a column last Monday.
Carron J. Phillips of the New York Daily News bought into this narrative as well, writing, “[I]f you’ve ever wondered what true equality would look like, it would be a world in which Serena Williams and Jalen Hurts could vent their frustrations freely and without repercussions, receiving compassion and understanding, instead.”
Hurts is an Alabama Crimson Tide quarterback whom Phillips also believes has been treated unfairly. In her mind, all black and/or female athletes deserve to be automatically forgiven for misbehaving because to do otherwise would be sexist/racist, never mind the facts.
Except pretty much everybody else in the world disagrees:
No she’s being punished for breaking the rules just like anyone else would. Not because she’s black. Not because she’s a woman. Because she can’t handle losing and has to undermine her opponents acheivement.

To clarify ,Serena wants limited equality.. she dosen’t want to play 5 sets till 2am in 80% humidity like her Male counterparts.. she wants to keep her preferential court times and air conditioning… and also void code violations.. that seems fair..

Rather than address the obvious prejudice against black athlete esp women, can we focus on the winner Naomi Osaka instead and not give attention to Serena’s poor sportsmanship? In the end Osaka is a black woman too.

Serena was penalized for what she did and what her coach did. @her coach was coaching and got caught and he admitted it. Serena blew up at the Ref . He didn’t say she was cheating, he said he gave her and her team a coaching violation.

Rubbish, her coach admitted the offense & she rightly got punished. Her behavior afterwards caused the problem not sexism, & certainly wasn’t the behavior of a Champion or a Role Model
