Of all the harebrained ways to protest President Donald Trump’s otherwise successful presidency, one verifiably loony Nevada professor has found the dumbest way of all: By shooting himself.
*facepalm*
Mark J. Bird, 69, a longtime sociology professor at the College of Southern Nevada, shot himself in the arm late last month — and almost killed himself in the process — all in a bid to stick it to the president, according to the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Police reports note that Bird stepped into a campus bathroom on Aug. 28 armed with a concealed weapon (aren’t liberal professors supposed to be against that?), left a $100 bill for the janitor (who later had to clean up the bloody mess he made) and then shot himself in the arm.
Bird then stumbled out of the bathroom, at which time other university employees — all of them quite shocked — comforted him as they waited for local authorities to arrive. It was during this brief time period that he confessed to shooting himself because of Trump.
“While waiting for authorities to arrive, Bird said he had shot himself in protest of President Donald Trump, police noted in their report. The report did not elaborate,” the Review-Journal noted.
Brilliant …
He’s reportedly since been charged “with discharging a gun within a prohibited structure, carrying a concealed weapon without a permit and possessing a dangerous weapon on school property.”
The guy’s been with the college since 1993 and was listed as an emeritus faculty member at the time of the shooting. He reportedly isn’t scheduled to teach any classes this fall, which is great since, 1; he’s arguably insane, and 2; he’s a lousy teacher, according to reviews at Rate My Professors:
The bad news is that it remains unclear whether the school intends to pursue disciplinary actions against him. The school has thus far stonewalled all requests for more information and clarity regarding what happened.
“They never really told the students much about it except that it was resolved on the actual day of the shooting,” Robert Manis, the president of the college’s faculty union, told the Review-Journal. “When you don’t give the full details, then rumors go crazy. It’s unfortunate because it made the students and faculty very afraid and allowed rumors to proliferate.”
