President Trump mocked special counsel Robert Mueller for wasting $28 million in taxpayer money to sentence George Papadopoulos — a low-level former 2016 Trump campaign aide — to 14 days in jail for lying to the FBI.
Trump tweeted sarcastically: “14 days for $28 MILLION – $2 MILLION a day, No Collusion. A great day for America!”
Papadopoulos pled guilty last year for lying to the FBI about conversations he had in 2016 with a professor in Europe whom he claimed had links to the Russian government. That professor was Joseph Mifsud of the London Academy of Diplomacy.
In May 2016, Papadopoulos casually spouted off a self-aggrandizing lie in a London bar that Mifsud had “dirt” on Hillary Clinton. That offhanded lie helped trigger the Obama FBI’s fruitless investigation into the 2016 Trump campaign.

Legal experts say the miniscule 14-day jail sentence was a damning indictment of what a colossal waste of time and money Robert Mueller’s “Russia collusion” investigation has been.
Papadopoulos’s attorney, Tom Breen, blamed President Trump for hindering the Mueller investigation in court, according to tweets posted by Politico’s Kyle Cheney.

Judge Randy Moss said he believed Papadopoulos was genuinely remorseful about lying to the FBI but didn’t agree to a probation-only sentence because he wanted to send a message about the seriousness of lying to the FBI.
The judge also noted that Papadopoulos’ lies were not intended to boost Russia, but to serve his own self-interest of getting a job in the Trump White House. “This was not a noble lie,” Moss said.

So here’s the bottom line: After being squeezed and bullied by Mueller’s FBI team, Papadopoulos had no incriminating evidence that Donald Trump or his 2016 campaign had colluded with Russia.
As BizPac Review previously reported, the Mueller investigation has yielded no evidence of collusion after a year-long probe that has cost taxpayers tens of millions of dollars.
What the Mueller circus has produced is a mountain of evidence detailing widespread corruption by Obama holdovers at the highest levels of the FBI who are intent on obstructing and undermining a duly-elected United States president.
James Trusty, a former prosecutor with the Department of Justice, said the piddling Papadopoulos sentence underscored once again that Mueller has failed to nail President Trump for collusion.
“This is low-hanging fruit,” Trusty told Fox News. “What’s really intriguing to me is how in the ‘Russia collusion’ investigation, these false-statement charges are being used left and right. So you’ve got a man going to jail for 14 days, when really it’s not anything directly involved with Russia or collusion.”
Trusty added: “That’s not to say that false statements aren’t serious, but that same type of charge was completely sworn off in the Hillary email investigation. Clearly, this was an unsuccessful case [for Mueller].”
