Attorney for accused murderer of Mollie Tibbetts describes illegal alien client as ‘all-American boy’

According to the defense attorney of the illegal immigrant suspected of murdering Iowa college student Mollie Tibbetts, his client’s immigration status should essentially be ignored (if not outright denied) because he’s allegedly a hard-working “all-American boy.”

video screen grab.

“He was just a part of the community. An all-American boy working really hard,” attorney Allan Richards said to People magazine about his client, Cristhian Bahena Rivera, adding that the 24-year-old illegal immigrant has “no prior criminal record.”

Except that because he crossed into the United States illegally and reportedly resided in Iowa for four to seven years, Rivera is by default already a criminal. Moreover, he’s one with no legal status in the United States, meaning he’s not an “all-American” anything. And lest we forget, the “all-American boy” needs a translator to during court proceedings so that he can communicate with his lawyer.

“Whether or not there was something that happened that was very outrageous, that is a different matter. I have seen no evidence on that at no point and he is presumed innocent until we see it,” Richards continued, referencing the current charges against Rivera.

Except that Richards was lying again. Rivera led investigators to Tibbetts’ body after admitting that he’d interacted with her before her death. He claimed he had then “blacked out” during this interaction. While this isn’t inconclusive proof of his guilt, it’s more than the “no evidence” cited by Richards.

The attorney’s stunningly disrespectful rhetoric was all part of a repugnant strategy by him to deflect from his client’s crime by pinning the blame on President Donald Trump. Yes, President Donald Trump.

Conservative actor James Woods picked up BPR’s story Friday morning and added some hard-hitting and truth-filled thoughts:

“Liberals believe if they lie long enough and loud enough, rational Americans will eventually weary of them and surrender,” Woods wrote.  “Bad news, jerkoffs. It’s not going to happen.”

Responding to Tibbett’s murder, the president released a statement Wednesday highlighting Rivera’s immigration and demanding Congress take prompt action against illegal immigration.

“Mollie Tibbetts, an incredible young woman, is now permanently separated from her family. A person came in from Mexico, illegally, and killed her. We need the wall. We need our immigration laws changed. We need our border laws changed,” he said.

Listen to his full statement below:

This sensible statement was enough to provoke Richards into filing a gag order Wednesday with a Poweshiek County court: “Sad and sorry Trump has weighed in on this matter in national media which will poison the entire possible pool of jury members,” he reportedly wrote.

The request demanded the Trump administration stop mentioning his client’s immigration status and further claimed Rivera is a “documented” immigrant. That was also a lie.

“A search of records by USCIS revealed Rivera did not make any DACA requests nor were any grants given. We have found no record in our systems indicating he has any lawful immigration status,” Michael Bars, a spokesman for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, told USA Today, not that Richards cared.

“The coverage that’s out there is leaning all one way and in fact, government has weighed in at the highest levels,” he said in court. “In our system of justice, he’s entitled to that presumption of innocence until some evidence is presented. Portraying Cristhian as something that he isn’t, in some ways I view that as a political payback for what’s swirling around.”

Richards is trying to argue his client won’t receive fair treatment in court because Trump’s statement harmed his reputation. It’s a neat trick Rivera’s attorney is trying to pull, but it’s not going to work.

It’s indisputable that Rivera is an illegal immigrant. It’s also undeniable that the more Richards lies, the worse damage he himself does to Rivera’s case. So instead of trying to impose a absurd gag order on Trump, maybe he should follow MSNBC contributor Christina Greer’s lead and put one on himself.
