The level of absurdity with the left on what is and isn’t politically correct seems to know no bounds.
A British celebrity chef is defending himself after being accused of cultural appropriation – over a rice recipe.
Television chef and restaurant owner, Jamie Oliver, has set off a liberal meltdown with his “punchy jerk rice,” getting even a Member of Parliament to complain on Twitter that it was a case of cultural appropriation and “needs to stop.”
#jamieoliver @jamieoliver #jerk I’m just wondering do you know what #Jamaican #jerk actually is? It’s not just a word you put before stuff to sell products. @levirootsmusic should do a masterclass. Your jerk Rice is not ok. This appropriation from Jamaica needs to stop.

At the center of the controversy is a microwavable rice product which Oliver named after the Jamaican marinade which critics say does not contain many of the traditional jerk ingredients.
I’m not in the mood for this @jamieoliver #PunchyJerkRice #Alkindawrong #Stopit now lost all respect for you. WE IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY truly know how to cook OUR food and you take it and disrespect it in such a form. What a disgrace. I’m not surprised though #FakeFood pic.twitter.com/T5lzNiivch

“I’ve worked with flavors and spices from all over the world my whole career, learning and drawing inspiration from different countries and cultures to give a fresh twist to the food we eat every day,” Oliver said in a statement, according to The Independent.
“When I named the rice, my intention was only to show where my inspiration came from,” he said.
According to the Independent:
Most variations of jerk marinade contain allspice and scotch bonnet peppers and often cloves, cinnamon, scallions, nutmeg, thyme, garlic, brown sugar, ginger and salt.
Oliver’s rice mixes garlic, ginger and jalapenos “to create a jerk marinade with attitude.”
Celebrity chef Levi Roots called Oliver’s decision to launch his jerk rice recipe “a mistake” as the topic was discussed on “Good Morning Britain.”
“Which bit of his rice is wrong, again?” Zoe Williams wrote in an op-ed published The Guardian Wednesday. “That he would use seasoning that originated in another culture; that he would get the seasoning wrong; or that he would misapply it to the wrong ingredient, ‘jerk’ being intended for meat, not rice? What do the liberals want?”
Williams slammed the move by Oliver as “another inequality story.”
“But what people are angry about isn’t the homely cross-pollination of one tasty thing with another, but that a person who is already minted is making a load of money out of a bastardised version of something, while the people who eat the authentic dish make diddly-squat from it.” she wrote.
Apparently, Oliver giving credit to his “inspiration” with the dish has crossed some kind of line for the left, which recently went after pop mega-star Madonna, accusing her of cultural appropriation for her attire at the MTV Video Music Awards on Monday.

Liberals seek to keep everyone in their lane, crying foul over anything from a clothing choice to a rice recipe that they deem politically incorrect.
Jamie Oliver fucking about with jerk recipes has sent me over the edge today. Great to see Dawn Butler tearing him to shreds. I always ask my Caribbean neighbours for their permission before eating Jamaican food. If they’re out, I’ll text or simply wait for another day. #Respect

Twitter users reacted to the drama online.
There is no issue. Just people looking to be offended by nothing. Bad idea? I would say so.

“Cultural appropriation”, my arse. Food is colour blind. Food isn’t racist. Food is for all, for everyone. Anybody can do anything with food. To use the race card in #JamieOliver’s jerk rice is absolutely ridiculous and hysterical.

Jamie Oliver did not rape, pillage, enslave or destroy anyone in the making of his rice dish. He just made some tasty rice and hat-tipped his cultural inspiration in the title. Jaysus. https://t.co/NS2iPGibRh

Now while I do think Jamie needs taking down a peg or three you’re all getting very silly over this appropriation stuff. If no one cooked/ate food from other cultures in the world what a boring life we’d lead.
