If there’s one thing left and right can agree on, it’s that Omarosa Manigault-Newman was a lousy employee.
Now that the former White House aide is peddling wares the anti-Trump media sees as a potential means to bring down President Donald Trump, it’s all Omarosa, all the time, but few are questioning White House Chief of Staff John Kelly’s decision to fire her.
Especially not former staffers from then-Vice President Al Gore’s office, where the former reality TV star once worked.
Omorosa was called “unqualified and disruptive,” and “the worst hire we ever made,” the New York Times reported.
But numerous former staff members in that office said that she was pushed out of an entry-level, $25,000-a-year job replying to invitations to Mr. Gore after 13 months, leaving a pile of unanswered correspondence under her desk. “She was the worst hire we ever made,” said Mary Margaret Overbey, Mr. Gore’s former office administrator.
Ms. Manigault transferred to a job as deputy associate director of presidential personnel, then eight months later moved to the Commerce Department. In her statement, she said she performed well in that job. But Cheryl Shavers, then the agency’s under secretary for technology administration, disagreed, saying Ms. Manigault “was unqualified and disruptive,” so “I had her removed.”
In fact, People Magazine reported that Omarosa “was banished from four jobs in two years with the Clinton administration.”
Shavers, the former Under Secretary for Technology at the Commerce Department, who was quoted in The Times article, said Omarosa “was asked to leave as quickly as possible, she was so disruptive,” according to People.
“One woman wanted to slug her,” Shavers added.
One former Gore staffer said “she didn’t do her job, and it got everybody in trouble.”
All the while, Omarosa played up her positions, embellished her job titles and work history on her resumes.
She told People her responsibilities while working for the vice president included “logistics and advance and event planning for the White House under the Gore staff.”
“Her exact title was scheduling correspondent,” a former staffer told the magazine. “Her job was to respond to invitations.”
Invitations that apparently were piling up under Omarosa’s desk, unopened.
The Times reported that she identified herself as a professor at Howard University on her website, but a university spokesman said that Omarosa was just a “facilitator and presenter.”
