Attendees of Democrat Day at the Illinois State Fair will not be able to see Joe Biden as scheduled following doctor’s orders for the former Vice President.
Originally planned to be the keynote speaker Thursday at the Illinois Democratic County Chairs’ Association brunch, Biden had to cancel his appearance because he is “under doctor’s orders” to limit his travel, the Chicago Sun-Times reported.

“Everyone who knows Vice President Biden knows that he gives our party and our country his all, but unfortunately he is sick and is under doctor’s orders not to travel,” Doug House, president of the Illinois Democratic County Chair’s Association, said in a statement.
The 75-year-old, who has been considered a possible 2020 presidential contender, was scheduled to speak as a campaign boost to Democratic gubernatorial candidate, J.B. Pritzker, who is facing off against GOP incumbent Bruce Rauner, Conservative Party candidate and state senator Sam McCann as well as Libertarian Party candidate Kash Jackson in November.
Tickets for the brunch, which kicks off the day’s activities, sold out quickly as 2,500 tickets for the Springfield hotel’s main-floor ballroom sold out in the first week, Springfield’s State Journal-Register reported. A second room that holds 700 people on the second floor was then slated to be used.
Although Biden’s absence will be “disappointing,” Democrat Day activities will still go on.
“The cancellation is of course disappointing, but it is clear that the circumstances are simply unavoidable,” House said. “We all hope he gets well soon and I’m sure he’ll be back campaigning for Democrats in Illinois and across the country in no time.”
