Despite all the bullying, harassment and assault that conservatives have faced ever since President Donald Trump stepped into office, the media would have the public believe that it’s Trump haters who’re really at risk in America.
For proof, look to ABC News’ popular hidden camera show, “What Would You Do?” In the latest episode, the producers of the show set up hidden cameras at an undisclosed cafe to observe how everyday Americans would behave were a fellow citizen to be discriminated against for his or her political views.
In the first segment, a man wearing an “Impeach 45” t-shirt was denied service by the manager (who was in fact just an actor like him) because of his t-shirt.

From the get-go two pro-Trump customers praised the manager for discriminating against the “Impeach 45” man. The rest of the customers meanwhile rightly argued that what the manager was doing was wrong.
So far it seems like a realistic scenario, right? The problem is that when the show instead placed a man wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat at the cafe, something entirely different happened.

Everybody at the cafe defended the MAGA-hat-wearing man. Not a single liberal customer came to the defense of the manager. Does that seem realistic at all to you, particularly in this day and age of rampant anti-Trump discrimination and harassment?
To be fair, some of it likely depends on location. It’s probably fair to assume that a Trump supporter trying to eat lunch at a restaurant in the far-left city of Portland would find a lot less support than a Trump supporter grabbing lunch in, say, Idaho.
Still, the segment seems contrived, particularly in light of the facts. There have been numerous instances where Trump supporters or even Trump administration officials were discriminated against or harassed, and nobody stood up for them.
Nor have there been any cases of prominent conservatives calling for liberals to be harassed or discriminated against in public. The same cannot be said of prominent liberals, who’ve called for the public harassment of Trump administration officials and ostracization of Trump supporters.
Regarding the clips from the show, were those real people acting out in real ways? It would appear so, yes. But ABC producers are obviously capable of choosing the location and the cherry-picked clips to show on television in a strategic way to tell their story. If they could be trusted not to manipulate the news, it might be an interesting show.
Given the odds of honest reporting, we’re going to reserve judgement on this one.
