Newly-released video shows the heart-pounding moments when a Pennsylvania traffic stop ended in a gunfight that nearly killed one of the officers.
Police dashcam video showed two troopers had pulled Daniel Clary over for speeding last November and were attempting to arrest him when it appeared that he was impaired, CBS News reported.
State Troopers Ryan Seiple and Seth Kelly stopped the 22-year-old for speeding in Nazareth, Pennsylvania but tried to arrest him after they suspected him of being high. Clary resisted, forcing the officer to use a taser.
The suspect writhed in pain on the ground and continued to resist, as the officers struggled to subdue him. At one point in the altercation, Kelly’s spare pistol got loose but Seiple secured it within a few seconds.
Clary continued to fight back forcing the officers to resort to punching and kicking, repeatedly ordering him to get his hands behind his back. Eventually Clary broke free and can be seen in the video reaching into the car and grabbing his gun.
Several shots were exchanged before Clary jumped into his car and drove off.
According to CBS News:
Kelly was left bleeding from a torn femoral artery.
Kelly, who applied his own tourniquet at the scene, was clinically dead and spent 12 days in a coma. He’s now recovering and plans to return to work with Seiple.
The suspect, who was also injured in the gunfight, reportedly drove himself to a hospital where he was treated and arrested.
Clary faces sentencing later this month for attempted murder.
