A Tennessee Democrat displayed a sick sense of humor when he joked about wishing congresswoman Marsha Blackburn would jump off a bridge.
And Rep. Steve Cohen made the comment at a church prayer breakfast for her Democrat opponent.

The breakfast, hosted by former Gov. Phil Bredesen, who is running for U.S. Senate against Blackburn, was held at the Broadway Baptist Church in Memphis last month. Audio of the comments was obtained by the Huffington Post.
“The big orange president, that’s not somebody from Knoxville,” Cohen said. “He’s going to come down here and endorse Marsha Blackburn. ‘Cause Marsha Blackburn, if he says, ‘jump off the Harahan Bridge,’ she’ll jump off the Harahan Bridge.”
“I wish he’d say that,” he added, as the audience laughed. “She will do anything he says.”
Republican party Chairman Scott Golden was quick to condemn Cohen for his remarks.
“At a time when our country is combating a mental health crisis, it’s shocking and, frankly, sickening to hear a Democratic congressman actively wishing for a Republican congressman’s suicide. The fact that these shameful and violent remarks came at a prayer breakfast make them that much more disappointing,” Golden said in a statement, the Tennessean reported.
The Democrat was immediately under fire on social media once the recording was released.
Rep. Cohen is doing his best Maxine Watters impression with his hateful words towards Marsha Blackburn. Wishing someone harm has no place in our party. We stand with Marsha Blackburn 100% and condemn Phil Bredesen for not refuting Rep. Cohen remarks. #webackmarsha

The thought that those were pastors, with so much laughter after his comment is really troubling!!!

Why would he say that? When questioned about his threatening statement his follow-up answer is the typical, “I was only joking.”

Cohen told the Huffington Post on Thursday that he hadn’t meant what he said literally.
“It was obviously humor,” he claimed. “I wish her no harm. I hope she doesn’t get the Senate. And I wish she wasn’t a lackey for Trump. But I don’t wish her physical harm.”
This from the same man who walked back his thought that former FBI agent Peter Strzok should get the purple heart after facing a tough congressional hearing. The Democrat also seemed to suggest a military coup was in order after President Trump’s controversial press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin last month.

“No coup called for,” Cohen tweeted.
Talk about jumping to conclusions without talking to source. No coup called for . I seriously doubt anyone would use twitter to do .. one tweet if by land two if by sea…Wow https://t.co/3d0uhGa57t
