Hannity slams ‘crisis peddlers’ and Acosta for trying to ‘self-righteously seize the moral high ground’

Sean Hannity continued to slam CNN’s Jim Acosta, calling him out for trying to “self-righteously seize the moral high ground” at a press briefing.

In an opening monologue focused on the mainstream media’s relentless attacks on President Donald Trump, the Fox News host unleashed a scathing commentary.

“The crisis peddlers are at it again. Your mainstream destroy-Trump media has constantly tried and constantly failed to sink the Trump presidency,” Hannity began on Fox News’ “Hannity” on Thursday.

“Now it’s come full circle. The outrage of the day is centered around members of the media talking about themselves and their own little bubble, and how some believe that the president’s rhetoric and conservative rhetoric and any criticism against them actually is putting them in danger,” he said.

Continuing the war of words with Acosta, Hannity blasted “the king of lies” and the “king of fake news,” for attempting “to self-righteously seize the moral high ground” during Thursday’s White House press briefing. “He didn’t win this round.”

The chief White House correspondent for CNN and White House press secretary Sarah Sanders had a fiery exchange as she refused to give in to Acosta’s demand that she say the media was not the enemy of the American people.

“I think the president has made his position known,” Sanders said. “It’s ironic, Jim, that not only you and the media attack the president for his rhetoric when they frequently lower the level of conversation in this country.”

Acosta angrily walked out of the briefing before it was over.

Hannity defended the freedom of speech to call out “fake news,” but repeated his previous assertion that violence was not being called for and that he would “be the first person to jump in and personally defend any journalist who was attacked anywhere in the country.”

“The fact that the people of this country are so fed up with their bias, their lying is not a call for violence at all,” Hannity said. “As a matter of fact, it’s actually freedom of speech and our duty to call out blatant lies, fake news for what it is. And it’s no surprise that you, the American people, no longer trust the so-called mainstream media.”

Harassment and acts of aggression happen every day, Hannity noted.

“There are a lot of nuts out there. I know personally,” he added. “I’ve had numerous death threats, over the years I’ve had white powder mailed to my office…and I’ll be the first to stand up and say everybody has a right to freedom of speech.”

“But saying you are a liar and calling out fake news is only words. Nobody is supporting any violence,” Hannity said. “Don’t make accusations that are untrue.”
