‘Completely disgusting’ that Podesta is getting immunity from Mueller to testify against Manafort

Former Utah Congressman Jason Chaffetz slammed the double standard by Robert Mueller in the treatment of Paul Manafort and Democratic lobbyist Tony Podesta.

Sitting in for Fox News’ Laura Ingraham on Friday, the Fox News contributor asked a panel if Manafort and Podesta are being treated the same by the special counsel’s team.

Podesta reportedly worked on behalf of a foreign interest without registering under the Foreign Agent Registration Act, accusations very similar to what Manafort, President Trump’s former campaign chairman, was indicted for by Mueller, Chaffetz noted.

“They’re handing out immunity to yet another Democrat,” he said, asking about the immunity being granted to Podesta to testify.

Retired FBI agent Bobby Chacon noted that the immunity deal puts Podesta “right in the middle” of it because he wouldn’t be granted the protection if investigators didn’t think he had committed a crime.

“They must think that Podesta did something illegal and that that illegal activity – or some activity that he engaged in – was connected to the probe going on,” he said.

Former FBI National spokesperson, John Iannarelli found the number of immunity deals handed out by Mueller to be “highly unusual.”

“I think the lesson we’re seeing here is that if you’re going to commit a crime it pays to have a relative who’s in high political office so that you can be the one offered immunity,” he said.

Speaking with Tucker Carlson on Thursday, former Trump campaign aide Michael Caputo found it “completely disgusting” that  Podesta has been offered immunity to testify against Manafort.

“I can’t think of another word for it. This is very clearly partisan,” Caputo said on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight.”

“If there was somebody in Washington representing the Russians in 2016, it was Tony Podesta,
Caputo told host Tucker Carlson, referring to the brother of John Podesta, who was chairman of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.

Caputo, who has been interviewed by special counsel investigators and has blasted Senate committee Democrats for conducting a ‘witch hunt” that has cost him dearly, believes Podesta was granted immunity “because he can do something to hurt Paul Manafort.”

Caputo also called out 17 Democrats who “registered for Russian companies that were connected to the Kremlin or actually registered to represent the Kremlin.”

Citing two unnamed sources, Carlson unpacked the details in the opening monologue of his show Thursday of the immunity offered by Mueller to Podesta, founder of the Podesta Group which reportedly worked with Manafort, who is accused of money laundering, tax fraud and other crimes in connection with lobbying work he performed in Ukraine.

“For a near identical crime, Bill and Hillary’s friend could escape and emerge completely unscathed while Paul Manafort may rot in jail. Only one of them made the mistake of chairing Donald Trump’s presidential campaign,” Carlson said.

“In recent months, three people have been charged under Fara,” Carlson continued, citing the Foreign Agent Registration Act. “What do they have in common? You guessed it — some connection to Donald Trump.”

The Fox News host noted that federal laws have to be “enforced equally or they are not laws at all, they are political cudgels and tools of social control.”
