According to the mainstream media, proud supporters of President Donald Trump ought to be deathly afraid, because it turns out that his trade tariffs are about to transform their previously perfect lives into abject nightmares.
“If you like Chick-fil-A sandwiches, you could eventually feel the impact of US tariffs on China,” the Associated Press ominously warned in a tweet Friday that linked to a story titled, “US-China trade war elevates the risks to the global economy.”

Except if you scroll through the AP’s lengthy 1000-word-long story, all the way down to paragraph 18, you discover that it’s all much ado about nothing.
“If you like Chick-fil-A sandwiches, for instance, you may feel the effects. Charlie Souhrada of the North American Food Equipment Manufacturers said the tariffs could raise the cost of a kind of pressure cooker Chick-fil-A uses,” the AP reported.
That’s it? Really? REALLY?
But you would be quite mistaken if you thought social media would let this fly. Never. Instead social media tore into the Associated Press by unleashing a stream of hilarious tweets poking fun at the lamestream media’s absurd premise.
The premise was that, even though Trump supporters didn’t care that the president’s tariffs would slated to cause a slight increase in soy bean prices, they would undoubtedly be upset about the tariffs triggering a marginal increase in the price of their Chick-fil-A’s food.

The media believe that Trump’s most fervent supporters are selfish, know-nothing oafs who only care by their own interests. But their willingness to sacrifice suggests otherwise. The consensus among the president’s supporters is specifically that it’s worth suffering under increased prices now if it means fairer international trade in the long run.
Note that’s fair trade, which isn’t necessarily the same thing as free trade, as Trump himself noted during a speech last year to the National Governors Association.
“I want trade. I want great trade between countries. But the word ‘free’ is very deceiving because it’s good for them, it’s not good for us. I want fair trade. And if we’re going to be taxed, they should be taxed at the same amount, the other countries,” he said.
Is fair trade really that much to ask for? It certainly isn’t to Trump’s supporters, and no amount of fear-mongering will change that.
