WaPo’s ‘conservative’ anti-Trump columnist says Republican Party now a majority ‘white-nationalists’

A longtime GOP campaign adviser is claiming the Republican party is now made up of a majority of “white-nationalist” members, with conservatives on the “fringe.”

“You used to belong to a conservative party with a white-nationalist fringe. Now it’s a white-nationalist party with a conservative fringe,” conservative columnist Max Boot wrote in The Washington Post Wednesday.

Boot says he extricated himself from the Republican party the day after President Donald Trump won the election, re-registering as an independent. He is happy with his choice, calling the current party the “party of child-snatchers.”

The columnist wrote a piece in November 2016 explaining his decision to leave the party, claiming he could “no longer support a party that doesn’t know what it stands for — and that in fact may stand for positions that I find repugnant.”

Boot claims he is “more convinced than ever” that he “made the right decision” after the 2016 presidential election, citing the Trump administration’s enforcement of a policy that separated children from their parents who immigrated illegally to the U.S. (the president later signed an executive order ending the policy).

Even though the president halted the policy, Boot believes it is a sign that Republican voters will follow anything Trump puts forth.

“If Trump announced he were going to spit-roast immigrant kids and eat them on national TV (apologies to Jonathan Swift), most Republicans probably would approve of that, too. The entire Republican platform can now be reduced to three words: whatever Trump says,” Boot wrote.

Tom Nichols and Bill Kristol–two notable and vocal Never Trumpers–are the “principled” conservatives who are making a “good case” for why Republicans shouldn’t flee the party during Trump’s tenure.

Boot urges voters to vote against Republican candidates in the November midterm elections and he even lists a few reasons to persuade readers.

“A vote for the GOP in November is also a vote for egregious obstruction of justice, rampant conflicts of interest, the demonization of minorities, the debasement of political discourse, the alienation of America’s allies, the end of free trade and the appeasement of dictators,” Boot wrote.
